Actually in the FF Ultimania, it's already been confirm that FFX-2 Shinra is indeed the Shinra of FFVIII'm sorry, but this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Some people really do grasp at straws...
I'm pretty sure Shinra is just a name they used to reference FFVII, since it's the highest selling FF game to date. It's tantamount to saying that every Cid in every FF game is actually the same person, who has somehow manipulated time and space, along with his physical appearance, so that he can be in every game.
Edit: Not to mention that the reason the company was called "SHINRA" was due to the president's name... Rufus Shinra![]()
Bleh, I looked it up... I apologise for my outburst but I still thoroughly HATE this! It seems like they just desperately tried to make some link for a reason that I cannot tell... fricking pain!
From Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega:
"Shinra is a boy who supports the Gullwings, the group which the main protagonist, Yuna, belongs to. He carries a name that gives him an association to the Shin-Ra Company, and he is researching a method that could utilize the energy of "the life force that flows through our planet." The results of this cannot be seen in FFX-2, but maybe one day his descendants will establish a "company that supplies the energy of the planet"?"
In the Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania Kazushige Nojima said the following:
"After quitting the Gullwings, Shinra received enormous financial support from Rin, and began trying to use Vegnagun to siphon Mako Energy from the Farplane. But, he is unable to complete the system for utilizing this energy in his generation, and in the future, when traveling to distant planets becomes possible, the Shin-Ra Company is founded on another world, or something like that....... That would happen about 1000 years after this story, I think."
I was wrong - blah blah blah
I'm sorry - blah blah blah
I still hate this with a passion - blah blah blah
And I'm sorry for taking this thread off topic... If it's any help, I don't wanna go to space in XIV! =D

Ugh, I'm with you. I can't help feeling that coming up with that kind of convoluted explanation outside of the game and making it canon is a disservice.
To be honest, these articles look like better evidence of an homage to FFVII than an actual relationship of continuity. On the other hand you could quite easily argue that all of FF is essentially one game premise that reinvents and reorients itself, and therefore will scarcely ever go without being an homage to itself. That is part of its great fun after all.Bleh, I looked it up... I apologise for my outburst but I still thoroughly HATE this!
