    Space?!

    Hello!

Lately when I have been viewing the official website for FFXIV for example, and other areas(might have been the alpha testers website) I have been seeing a lot of black backgrounds with stars and such that if not purposely look a lot like deep space.

Basically what I am trying to get to is, in the future do they or have they mentioned anything about taking FFXIV into space? Maybe something like FF8 how they were able to go into an airship in space, or maybe have another planet with all new cities in space?

Just curious, and to me that sounds like a lot of fun and all new possibilities where to take the game

It would be awesome if I could upgrade my Magitek armour to a Gundam-style suit!

While I think it would be pretty fun, I don't see it happening.

The only time space-travel happens in other FF games is through advanced technology. The only times I can remember it happens is in FFIV, FFVII, FFVIII, and is mentioned in FFX-2 since it is connected with FFVII. But, since the continent of Eorzea isn't really all that technologically advanced, I doubt we'll ever be going into space. Who knows, though? Maybe the Allagans, Garleans, or Sharlayans are more advanced than we think.

There's a character in FFX-2 named Shinra, who's descendants go on to develop space travel, and then find the planet of FFVII. The 'humans' in FFVII are really descendants of this Al-Bhed child. The Cetra were the original inhabitants on the planet before the Al-Bhed came. Jenova arrives on the planet only a while before the Al-Bhed, so the Jenova crisis was avoided. That's why the Cetra died out, but the Al-Bhed still lived. Also, the Al-Bhed then go on to found Midgar and the Shinra corp. That's why it's named "Shinra".

I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Some people really do grasp at straws...
I'm pretty sure Shinra is just a name they used to reference FFVII, since it's the highest selling FF game to date. It's tantamount to saying that every Cid in every FF game is actually the same person, who has somehow manipulated time and space, along with his physical appearance, so that he can be in every game.

Edit: Not to mention that the reason the company was called "SHINRA" was due to the president's name... Rufus Shinra
