Or the story could consist of us "attacking" or "taking over" one of their ships and infiltrating one of their space ships?I don't see the garleans deciding to let Eorzean use their ship unless there is an expansion that covers what happens after the garlean leaders are defeated and become under the control of three nations. In which case, I would expect we would get access to the empire and they could one day have an event to go to space. But those are very low likelihoods. Not so much the former since that could be a nice way to get the dark knight class unless we meet a roque garlean somewhere willing to teach the way of the dark knight.

The Allagan civilization is gone since thousands of years. All what remained are ruins and artefacts. While I think it would be pretty fun, I don't see it happening.
The only time space-travel happens in other FF games is through advanced technology. The only times I can remember it happens is in FFIV, FFVII, FFVIII, and is mentioned in FFX-2 since it is connected with FFVII. But, since the continent of Eorzea isn't really all that technologically advanced, I doubt we'll ever be going into space. Who knows, though? Maybe the Allagans, Garleans, or Sharlayans are more advanced than we think.
The Allagans banned him there.

But we could learn from them - or some ancient ruin ends up being a giant floating citadel loading with tech becoming a PvP ground that over time unlocks tech for the city states.
Besides random history guessing taking a peak at Garlean tech again I do believe Garleans are advanced enough to be considering out of orbit flight, besides their Legatus are in freaking space suits lol (laser spears, laser gauntlets) and their ships are very high tech.
Garleans are OP

omg think about how far you could jump
the official page has land with a deep blue filter.
though it would be nice to i guess

In 4 you go to the moon by a massive metal skyship and that one was super fantasy based, so why not?

Psssht, everyone knows that Zanarkand used to be called Midgar and that Tidus is the reincarnation of Cloud created by Aerith because Sin was actually created by Sephiroth.
Also, didn't you know that FF2 was actually the War of the Magi referred to by FF3?! They're direct sequels!
Please tell me you know I'm joking.
Edit: Had something completely made up, now hidden but preserved for laughing's sake.
That's even better. A character named Shinra from FFX-2 implies that their descendants founded Shinra corp. There's a character in FFX-2 named Shinra, who's descendants go on to develop space travel, and then find the planet of FFVII. The 'humans' in FFVII are really descendants of this Al-Bhed child. The Cetra were the original inhabitants on the planet before the Al-Bhed came. Jenova arrives on the planet only a while before the Al-Bhed, so the Jenova crisis was avoided. That's why the Cetra died out, but the Al-Bhed still lived. Also, the Al-Bhed then go on to found Midgar and the Shinra corp. That's why it's named "Shinra".
Can you present something *canonical* to support that the boy named Shinra was anything more than a reference to FF7?
More seriously, I suspect that if there's space involved in ARR, it'll be because the players' parties get teleported into space from the crystal tower, or Bahamut's labyrinth. I mean, seriously, why would Bahamut waste his time coming down to Eorzea just to beat up some reckless adventurers?
