Actually in the FF Ultimania, it's already been confirm that FFX-2 Shinra is indeed the Shinra of FFVIII'm sorry, but this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Some people really do grasp at straws...
I'm pretty sure Shinra is just a name they used to reference FFVII, since it's the highest selling FF game to date. It's tantamount to saying that every Cid in every FF game is actually the same person, who has somehow manipulated time and space, along with his physical appearance, so that he can be in every game.
Edit: Not to mention that the reason the company was called "SHINRA" was due to the president's name... Rufus Shinra![]()
There are, apparently, some pretty convoluted and long winded explanations about how FFX-2 and FFVII are actually in the same universe. Personally I don't ascribe to any of them, but you would be surprised how hard some people have looked for the "missing link".I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. As for space.... It doesn't really fit the tone of the game. It could be done, with care, but I'm skeptical. It would have to be something like FFXI, where you can teleport to a ancient Allag space station without using actual space travel (it would be too hard to shoe-horn it into the world as things stand).

Mild spoiler alert for FFVII, FFVII Dirge of Cerberus, and X-2:I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Some people really do grasp at straws...

First: Your example of Cid is obviously not true (as you've said), but it is true of Gilgamesh. He just can't control his void-drifting. Any instance of Gilgamesh (excluding the XI version and a few others) can be considered canon to the FFV Gilgamesh's story. I really look forward to an instance of Gilgamesh in XIV.
Second: The thing about Shinra was actually brought up in Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania. Shinra did mention in X-2 that he wanted to harvest the energy of the farplane, but that plan is never started during the game (unless it's in International, which I haven't played.) The Ultimania series offer official addenda to the original stories, and in many cases can be considered canon. X-2's left this scenario open as a "maybe". Personally I think the Shinra thing is far-fetched - the people of FFVII's world would have had to exist long enough to entirely forget space travel until Cid Highwind rediscovers it, and the name of a young Al-Bhed boy would likely be forgotten before then.
@Bowen: The seeds of racial integration in FFX-2 allow that Al-Bhed wouldn't readily exclude non-Al-Bhed from joining in their galactic exodus. Also consider Dirge of Cerberus: the Lifestream itself (everyone) can be carried across galaxies to take root in a new planet. Again, I doubt the name Shinra would reemerge from the lifestream.
Third: Rufus Shinra is the only legitimate son of President Shinra (no first name), who dies early in FFVII. Rufus took over the company within the hour, and the first president is quickly forgotten by the player.
There you have it. It's one thing to call someone on stretching the truth, but it's another to do so with half-truths of your own. I know X-2 and DoC are far from popular games, but they are canon and far more credible than your dismissive bullshit.
Edit: Sorry. Digression aside. Space travel would be cool. We've already had something fall from space, so who's to say we won't have a chance to rise up there? For now, however, I'm inclined to believe the sparkly darkness is that glittery powder effect found around the crystal in some of the earlier ARR trailers.
Anyway, space! Make it happen, devs! If not now, then sometime in the future!

EDITED
didnt really read the whole thing, god damn SE
anyway, until game really launching, I wont talk bout some expansion that wont likely happen in short time

Been awhile since I played X-2. What do you want clarification on? The connection to VII, or space travel?
VII reference is easy: Character named Shinra talks about using the Farplane (lifestream) as an energy source (mako). As far as spaceflight, dunno. The Al-bhed are pretty advanced, maybe they discovered/made a spaceship.
As far as the OP goes, I think the background is symbolic. Maybe it symbolizes the aether/aetherites. I personally believe it's where our characters are. I like to believe we were sent into a crystal stasis (like 13) while we wait for the world to rebuild. Maybe that background symbolizes the inside of a crystal.

You have a point, but the Garleans are really advanced and I am sure they can find a way, especially when Van Darnus made that huge land that floated above the clouds! While I think it would be pretty fun, I don't see it happening.
The only time space-travel happens in other FF games is through advanced technology. The only times I can remember it happens is in FFIV, FFVII, FFVIII, and is mentioned in FFX-2 since it is connected with FFVII. But, since the continent of Eorzea isn't really all that technologically advanced, I doubt we'll ever be going into space. Who knows, though? Maybe the Allagans, Garleans, or Sharlayans are more advanced than we think.
yeah, they could send a grup of brave adventurers to check if the moon is actually a moon or another prision for Alexander?

Ugh learn how to spell? You know there is a spell check that automatically underlines misspelled words o.o
But that would be cool yea! Kind of like FF9 when those 2 battled it out >![]()

Yeaaa again, just a thought, since other FF's have done it and I thought it would def. be cool to put that into an MMO.

I don't see the garleans deciding to let Eorzean use their ship unless there is an expansion that covers what happens after the garlean leaders are defeated and become under the control of three nations. In which case, I would expect we would get access to the empire and they could one day have an event to go to space. But those are very low likelihoods. Not so much the former since that could be a nice way to get the dark knight class unless we meet a roque garlean somewhere willing to teach the way of the dark knight.
