Something like that could be a relatively simple solution. Simply have a program that flags all trades / transactions that value over a certain threshhold. then have your XIV version of the STF investigate them all.

Ultimately that could end up with a lot of flagged transactions to be checked but for the most part the legitimate ones should be pretty quick to investigate.

It could also be possible to set various threshholds for different transactions. i.e. Maybe 500k for player to player trading to be flagged. But if someone pays 50k for a single water shard then flag it. A system like that would help against RMT a lot.

As for bots / addons I think addons would never take control of your character. In my view an addon would simply be a informative widget on screen that tells me how far away the mob I want to shoot is. Or a percentage readout of a mobs remaining hp. maybe even provides a visual indication of an aoes range. Addons should essentially be informative not decision making.

I would say then that an addon should never take control. i.e "if hp = <50% cast cure" or any other decision making process. IMO that falls under a bot and shouldn't be allowed.

I also they do visibly act alot more to clamp down on and punish botters and other exploiters. a lot of which were so blatently obvious such as casting flare repeatedly to farm steel while afk for several hours.

I've seen another game track the values of its items in both trade sales and through its version of an official market. The game is then able to recommend the current approximate price of the item to players. It's a very useful service that makes both buying and selling much easier. That sort of system could also help with something like this, flagging drastically uneven trades.

Yes, there will be people wanting to give expensive gifts or moving things to their mules or other things like that, but it would still be good to generally flag that sort of thing for investigation. If it's something innocent, it will likely look decidedly different from RMT in any investigation.
