Fan Site Sub-forum

Does anyone else agree that the "Community" forum could do with a "Fan Site" subforum to go alongside the "General Discussion"?

Each thread would (nominally) represent a different fan site. When a significant update occurs to the site, any forum user could post in the thread with a notification. This would bump it up in New Threads.

I imagine any discussion pertinent to the site would also take place in such a thread.

The least-updated or influential sites would drop down the list and vanish into insignificance, as would those threads that are duplicates.

I think it would be a nice feature to the forums; currently this kind of info is posted in General and is caught up in the mix of topics (making it almost impossible to browse), when it could be considered a category of its own. It would also act as a self-moderated list to replace the old "Fan Site Links" section on the Lodestone.

I think if the Lodestone allowed admins to submit sites to be included in the list, it would be fine (and a forum would be unneeded). i have found that forums specifically for fansites often end up a jumbled mess of "bumps" and useless posts to keep their site listed. (unfortunately).

An example of this would be TSW's fansite forum. It ends up being someone going in and posting something to the thread everytime they make a minor update or change to the site. It's not overly useful. For TSWGuides (Ry and my other site) we used to update ours, and just stopped bothering. I think some time of official list or sticky that is kept current works considerably better (A general link list or Specific subject list)

I'm guessing the reason that it's not done is because it's too labour-intensive for the Community Reps to maintain. I should qualify my suggestion by stating that I'm presuming there's no time/resource available to maintain an official listing any more.

Your suggestion is optimal, but I'd even prefer mine and trust in the community not to spam it, rather than have nothing at all. After all, we're all responsible posters here! Hah!

The only problem would be that fan-site administrators would inevitably constantly bump their own site when it started to drop into nothingness, this would defeat the purpose of the sub-forum.
