    1. This is a bad topic, you already made one and you didn't get the answer you were looking for
    2. Losing experience is not good and didn't 'bind' you to your character, the longevity of the game and having everything available on one character did
    3. We're not getting experience loss, get over it

You are right sir!! Sorry I got caught up in that WoW talk in your other thread. Lets hope for the best in FFXIV.

As Yoshi P took it over and brought it around to something that was stable and rooted FFXIV has regained a following. Subjects like the loss of experience as a consequence to death, experience per hour, easy questing, and time to endgame play. These are subjects that go much further than just the immediate pain of losing experience. They are what bound the community together. Like other painful memories of 2004 and prior, these bound people to the linkshells and characters that they played. I want to like my character again and look forward to playing with people that are still around after a year or 5 years. Without really looking for these keys that bound people I feel we are doomed to keep stabbing in the dark or following the band wagon. I know it hurt but it did far more than just pissing you off. And if you left then there where allot of other options that had fast experience and easy questing with fast gil to be made. The void is still there because even FFXI after WOG became geared too much to the instant gratification and how fast you could get all your jobs capped. In 2004 it took months to level a job and for some it took years. I am not saying take us back to that point. The pendulum has swung radically the other way with FFXIV.

All players have a streamline mentality regardless of what you do... even if you intended the death penalty to bond more closely to your character's group, you'll in cause increase the segregation of elite players not wanting to pick fresh new players to their dungeon/primal run since 'wiping upon immediate failure' is no longer an option. Sure you can bring pots to the fight, but that in turn also spikes the price for said pots since there's a new demand for it, so more people will want to use the party set-up of whatever is already optimal to avoid those costs.

Even though you'd want this bonding with many players and what not, most people unfortunately just want to get shit done so they can sleep for work tomorrow, regardless of how 'hardcore' the intended content is.

Honestly if this many people stuck around from the awful 1.0 launch till now, I doubt they are going anywhere anytime soon. That being said, i highly doubt it was xp loss or the insane wait times endgame(HNMs) had in ffxi that kept people playing, in fact it was the stupid hnm system that caused more people to leave then stay and it was ridiculous that it took them 4 years before adding replacement content that offered similar gear. What kept people playing FFXI was the content, story, lore, gameplay and community and based on the way 1.0 ended, i think we can expect some good lore and story in ARR, if they can nail the new content and gameplay, ARR will be a hit.

With all due respect, xp loss had NOTHING to do with the community on XI. I say this as someone who has been (and still is) playing XI since it first hit NA, and never have I heard a single person speak fondly of xp loss. Not one "man I love deleveling." In fact, it has been one of the greatest bitches about the game. Simply put, you're looking in the wrong place.
