As FFXI has been the most profitable game SE has ever had and is still the most profitable it makes little since to go so far away from what has made them so much. Though it seems FFXIV in its original form changed almost every component.Have you ever thought the reason SE don't want to make ARR into XI 2 is because they don't want to take subs away from XI? If they make it too similar but with improvements then XI will slowly die and be replaced with ARR. I don't think that's what SE want. Thus the reason ARR is going to be quite different.

Every Final Fantasy numbered series is different from one another. In terms of characters, story and game mechanics - that is a staple of the series. Of course it changed, it always does.
This is not FFXI-2, nor do I want it to be...

I just see people who argue with the points made in this thread and others, are the ones who want instant level cap and easy go lucky solo gameplay. If you want those things, there are plenty of solo games out there. Why pay a monthly fee for solo oriented content. Most of you wont be playing more than a few months til the next flavor of the month comes out.
So it went from hijacking the OP's thread over an epeen contest, to trolling the OPer himself..
Under my impression this post is more like "stuff you would like to see, make another appearance in 2.0". Some things I would like to see that I don't think will happen are:
- The 1.x combo system, and seperate ability timers (no global cooldown like a lot of MMO's). I actually thought 1.2+'s battle system was quite solid, aside from the animation lock.
- A little more seemless movement (perhaps not to the extent of 1.x). Just a slight bend of the knees when you halt, stepping as the camera spins etc (but this topic has been raped to kingdom come).
- A harsher death penalty (not necessarily EXP loss) that discourages spamming to win. Reduced attack speed and double cooldown timers would do me.
- The old "smart AI" system.. (curious mobs, scared mobs etc).
- Dungeon / instance timers.
If this thread is completely about the death penalty... If I had it my way, in an instance - if your party wiped you would be kicked from the instance. Not many people will agree with me on this one because of the modern MMO age, but I think it is reasonably fair.
However I like a challenge, some people don't.

Abyssea made exp loss obsolete. I don't see things like the hardcore do. Exp loss in XI was never and never will be a factor for continuing to play a game. To me no pain = no pain.
But it's alright to clone FFXI, it's only when they take stuff from other games that the pitchforks and torches gets equipped.


Or the opposite for some people on the other side of the coin. Mention something from XI and the same pitchforks and torches come out, just from different people.
