Surplus off, please.
Surplus off, please.
Well, I see the point of the system....but at this point it is pretty silly.
One of the few goals people have is getting to 50 right now. Why make it infuriating? Until we get some end-game content or MASSIVE quests/missions/battles to take part, grinding and exploring a bit are all we can do. Take that away and, surprise surprise, people leave.
I'm all for taking it out (even though I've never hit it personally).
Wishing for cheap housing in the hamlets...
I also would like the Surplus system removed. I play the game all week nights and weekends durring my spare time. I don't like to craft in this game and being a Conjurer I only level up a Thaumaturge so the surplus kicks in on a Thursday usualy.

You guys are looking at it all wrong. Think of surplus as the normal rate of SP, while non-surplus is the rested SP.

They shot their hardcore fans in the foot by introducing things like 'Fatigue' and 'Stamina' (implemented to cut down on hardcore grinders), in order to physically stop players from reaching the max level too fast.
But the worst part, for me at least, is still having reached reached max level through all of these obstacles to find that there is still insufficient content 6 months later...![]()
I'm just wondering how they're going to drastically improve the game to the point where soon-incoming PS3 customers will actually stick with the game, thus generating enough revenue to actually keep the game going...
I am surprised people are still complaining about this.
I find the idea actually good and the penalty isn't that harsh assuming you play like a sane person. I would like to stress that there is a much bigger picture to consider here than the surplus. I think for those in a rush to get to 50, you'll soon realize there's not much to do when you hit 50 due to lack of content and that is when you may feel an even bigger urge to quit because you've done all there is to do and i believe that's precisely one of the major reasons for limiting SP gain at the moment.
The issue here is lack of content to keep players busy and enjoying the game. Where is the fun in spamming the attack button a million times until you hit 50? what are you hoping to achieve by grinding so quick? There is no end-game content atm and the battle/class system is munted as the polls clearly indicated. If anything, i'd be complaining about them instead. As was pointed out before and as SE knows well, players quitting/suspending (myself included) aren't doing so due to surplus, but due to the horrible and incomplete state of the game. Removing surplus is quite insignificant in the overall success factor of this game, if anything surplus is giving players more time to hold on to game until content is released. if everyone was to hit 50 now, Game will be literally over, especially since many of the opposers expressed their lack of interest in playing other jobs. If however, you fancy playing other jobs, then the surplus system works for you, not against you.
In the end, it really is just in your head, they can easily rename it/bring it across as rested SP as some stated or they can remove the surplus SP and just lower SP gain again. Ultimately the point is that the hardcore players need to chill out from grinding because as the game stands now, you're not supposed to reach 50 so quick, it's not in FFXIV's interest nor yours for that matter. Take it easy until more content is released, then you'll have enough to keep you occupied. There is more to an MMO than grinding one job after the other and that is what SE is trying to fix up now with their frequent updates, so bear with them and be patient if this game means much to you.
The other important point is, this game was designed with the casual player in mind. There are countless MMO's out there targeting hardcore players who are willing to waste their life away on a game. I for one joined this game due to the concept of casual play and i know many others have. I would have very little interest playing if everyone grinded their life away and got to rank 100 and im still at rank 20 due to my limited play-time. Everyone knew this was the idea of the game in the first place, you'd have to ask yourself why joined it if it doesn't suit you? There's tons out there targeting hardcore players with even a much more enjoyable experience as it stands.
You are paying money to play the game the way it was designed to be played. That is the key point.

I am still amazed that there are people still defending this stupid idea. Thank God all you morons defending it are in the minority.
Agreed. Please get rid of it its really ruining the game for a lot of people
Seeing as the surplus system really isn't serving its purpose and its pretty easy to rank up quickly now then I'm all for removing it, yet Yoshi-p did mention that it was going to be adjusted since the recent SP changes are putting people in surplus after just a couple of leves. Either scrap it or fix it either way right now its just an annoyance but not big enough of one to make people stop ranking their class.
