Long term idea. Mini wards.

Actually, how about both? My idea for wards outside of cities, for camps and outposts, but a AH or such for inside cities. It actually makes sense that cities would have amore complicated setup for buying and selling, where as camps and outposts would just simply be a bunch of people standing around, wether retainers or players.

How about an auction house? Radical idea, I know. But then you can just have a centralized location to go to and, get this, talk to one NPC to get anything you need!

We have that. It's called the Market Wards. And you don't even need to talk to and NPC! You just walk up to them and get asked automatically what you're searching for! It's awesome!

Hmm, that's strange. I find that the Auction Houses work just fine in FFXI... and this is going on 8 years

Naw, they don't work all that fine. Unless you call monopoly and artificial price manipulation fine.
