Wow. You must be a bad mage Evangela. O.o
I can do upwards of 200 dmg with offensive magic on anything my level
they have nerfed shell/protect but they STILL work as intended. go solo a boar as a mage with protect and see what it does to you >_>
Learn2notAOE
needs moar vit
You put more points in vit to be invincible! (well not really, but certainly will not die easily then >_>)
You're doing it wrong
... You're still doing it wrong....
Why do we need r50 weapons again? We dont ACTUALLY hit anything with them, we're mages (though I would like an r50 weapon, you know, for my epeen)
I honestly dont know what to say to this. What were you expecting? Halberds?
AM is pretty rubbish, i agree with you there
Really? A good player never blames his tools
See above
Seriously, there is no one class without its problems, but I'd be much happier for SE to fix the current problems at hand (battle mechanics, lack of content, Gridania) and then focus on balancing out than nitpicking all the little kinks in CON/THM.
What happened to constructive criticism and politeness? All i see in these forums is people having nothing better to do then bash on other people when they try to give their opinion.
I do agree with this post as in Mages are not they should be. SE always had the most impressive magics and summons and the mages in this game feel just weak and useless... just good enough for healing.
also agree that mage gear looks like crap, can't wait for that VIVI black mage gear.

If you are getting killed in 3 hits or 1 hit with WS, WITH Protect/Shell up, you must be wearing weathered gear or something, because I know mages who can tank some of the NM's...

Seriously, I love this kind of topics. SE hates class X, so funny.
The most funny part is that the people crying about it are probably seriously believing the crap they are writing. Why would SE hate any class. Do you have any proper and valid explanation for that?
You can say class X is broken, please look into this .... but this crap is just annoying and you are showing the whole community what kind of fool you are, seriously ... think twice before opening another useless topic.
I see no probs in the offensive magic. Taking conjurer as an example, pick an enemy, consider it's elemental weakness. 9/10 you will kill it (and it's friend) before you even touches 1/2 life.
I personally think that the magic is fine, it's just a case of finding out when it is most effective
edit: Also, armour is key. If you run in as a magic user dressed in full gladiator armour, you're going to be killed. Less effective than using harsh language

Agree with the OP, don't screw us mages over.
Why are people complaining when the entire system is currently being revamped?

BS. I use my offensive magic as my primary damage quite a bit, and it definitely kills things faster.
Well, I take less damage with these up, so they're working a little at least.- Shell/Protect nerfed
This is complete, 100% bull****. When I do levequests solo, I almost exclusively use AoE to kill the groups of mobs. And I get SP/XP from every one, every time. Perhaps it scrolls up so fast on your chatbox that you don't see it? I have no idea where you got this from.- you can AoE a group of monster but you'll get exp/sp from only one
Yeah, that's why we have cure skills. The "1 shot" from a skill is very rare. Only happens to me when hit by "Devil" monsters and Cactuars.- 1000~1300 max hp, 3 hits or 1 skill hit from a monster cost your life (at this moment, when Shell/Protect nerfed)
Yes, everyone needs VIT. But you don't need 100+ by any means.- and you need 100+ vit allotment just to have little more hp, can take one more hit from mobs
It effects your resistance to elements (high Fire element means you take less damage from Fire), and it effects the rate at which Crystals/shards drop (high Fire element means Fire crystals/shards drop more often).- WTF is elemental allotment? I reassign them so many time and still can't see any different
This I can kinda agree on. I don't particularly like the look of the robes, but that's not your only option either.- potato sack is your gear!! wear it!!
What's wrong with this? You're just grasping at straws now. In FFXI, mages used wands/staff/rods... and they use the same in nearly every MMO. What's the problem?- a piece of branch is your staff/rod!! use it!
Huh? Works like most action bars I've used...- 15~30 action bar slots need, but you have to live with the worst action bar in the MMO history
If your action bar is open, it does not toggle your target type, it changes the action bar. But honestly? Learn to use Ctrl + number for your 2nd action bar, and Alt + number for your 3rd one.- when you want to scroll down to 2nd or 3rd action bar, you press UP or DOWN and it toggle your target type and then you die because your action bar and target type was fu--ed up
Except for the potato sack and vitality comments, I would say that most of the mage's problems are due to hasty implementation. Remember, SE did not want people hitting the cap quickly, so they introduced things like fatigue, stamina, and anti-AoE SP mechanics to stop hardcore grinders from doing so.
As for offensive magic being useless, I think that high recast times, high accuracy requirements, and poor mob tuning are all synergetic in compounding this issue.
That being said, potato sacks are itchy.

*points above, to the OP*
Have you considered playing Marauder?
