I really liked the idea of a free company ship/ship battle for leviathan.

So here's how it could work.

    Arena:

The fight takes place on a ship, steered by a NPC. The party spawns below deck.

Leviathan is slowly approaching the ship and summons huge waves and rain.

Imagine a stormy feeling for this battle. SE would need to work on a REALLY good battle scenery but I imagine this being REALLY awesome.

Since Leviathan is huge and in the water there's not really a way meele or mage classes would reach him.
I thought a ship can solve that problem pretty easily, you would need at least one gatherer and one crafter for it to work, though.

    Leviathan:

    Normal Attack:

He summons a small wave which is going to hit the ship, the wave deals medium damage but spawns 5-10 Aurelias on deck.
His normal attack speed is rather slow compared to other primals.

    Divine Veil:

Leviathan cures himself of all negative status effects

    Drown:

Leviathan entangles the entire ship (He is close enough for Meele/Magic range now!)
He spawns 10 Aurelias on the ship. He'll cast magic very frequently. Leviathan will switch the sides after this attack.

    Dive:

Leviathan dives and hits the ship from below, this causes a strong Slow and Gravity effect and deals minor damage.

    Tidal Wave: HP<50%

This is an exremely powerful attack, it disables all cannons and deals massive damage unless it is blocked. If it is blocked the damage taken is cut down to 50% and the cannons will still work.

    Magic:

Water: Hits 1 target, spawns 2 Aurelia
Waterga: Hits all targets in range, spawns 2 Aurelia for every player that is hit.

    The DoW:

They are firing the cannons (timing is very important, or they will just hit a wave)
They have to take care of all the Aurelias that might spawn.
They can engage Leviathan directly when he's entangling the ship.

    The DoM:

They are keeping the magic barrier up (It wears off after it has been activated ~10 seconds - 5 seconds recast timer)
They'll help taking care of all the Aurelias that might spawn.
They can engage Leviathan directly when he's entangling the ship.

    Crafters:

Cannons have a Health bar as well, they repair broken cannons. And possibly the ships hull.

    Gatherers:

They need to bring supplies from the storage to the cannons (Paralyze Shot, Normal Shot) etc.

    -----
(Number of spawned Aurelias might need to get fixed since I want constant fighting on the ship)

    Just my idea ^^
(Well, Warlock Warlord gave me the initial idea ;))

Nice thread! I would really like complex and dynamic mechanics (old and boring tank&spank no thanks)!

I liked the polarity thing for Ramuh HM .. it reminds me a WoW Wotlk boss (i suppose you played it :P )

Here's a rough idea. Feel free to alter or expand it.
    Shiva:

Arena is the standard Primal size. Shiva will call pillars of ice that need to be broken continuously. The party will need to dedicate one or two party members to this task for most of the second phase. These pillars are strong against piercing strikes, but very weak to Fire and Blunt damage. They will go down after a few weapon skills. Standing too close to one for too long may cause players to become bound until the pillar is destroyed. The damage of Diamond Dust will depend on how many pillars are still standing.

Meanwhile Shiva will bombard the rest of the party with Heavenly Strike (giant falling icicle dealing area damage) and other ice abilities. The tank will need to continuously move her around because the position of the ice pillars is entirely random (not dependent on enmity list).

Not really primals, but if I remember correctly it sounded like the ARR team was going to make some nods to previous FF titles. So, why not implement some of the main bosses from other titles, or maybe even battle the hero parties from previous titles? Reimagined in the context of an MMORPG of course.

I'd also like to see some non-standard fights too. Many of you will probably hate where I'm pointing too, but I still think these were good ideas, at the very least in theory.

Take the WoW boss Flame Leviathan from Ulduar for example. Everyone hops in a vehicle and uses the vehicle's weapons to defeat a boss while doing whatever is needed to avoid/reduce damage taken from the boss. (In many ways it's kind of similar to the Leviathan battle in this thread)

Even something like the....Dreamwalker? Or whatever it was in ICC where the Healers had to heal an injured NPC, (the NPC couldn't move and didn't retaliate, so it was basically one big punching bag) that had as much HP as a boss, to full, collecting heal-power powerups to make their heals stronger while waves and waves of adds come to attack your group and the NPC.

I get where your going with that. I have a problem with super out of the box fights though. they are fun the first few times but after doing them over and over the gimmicks get old fast. The best bosses combine clever gimmicks with the well worn strategies.

I did not play WotLK but I know what you are talking about. I never had a chance to fight that boss so I am only vaguely familiar with the idea.

I'll add to this by saying I don't see the Leviathan fight be anything other than a vehicle fight unless we suddenly are able to move underwater (and even then he's pretty massive).

Even something like the....Dreamwalker? Ah yes, the Valithria Dreamwalker fight. Indeed. Instead of fighting a boss you had to heal Valithria until her health bar was full while your tanks and DPS fought off waves of adds that would attack her. Would definitely want to see encounters where the healers really get to show off or designed around them.

The Ramuh fight sounds like a combination of Thorim, Hagara the Stormbinder and Thaddius. Very well done. ^^

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

@Devs: I would LOVE to see the Magus Sisters at some point. Primal or not. The FFXI minor reference with the Shikaree Sin Hunters wasn't quite fanservicey enough because they alluded to the Japanese names that only half the community knows.

    Shiva battle concept:

    Setting: Glacial Fissure

    Top & side views:

Concept: Battle takes place at a cliff-like cutout of a great glacier, with a fantastic view of the landscape outside. Shiva is first encountered sealed inside a cocoon of her own making. The party will choose someone to wake her by approaching. This person is inflicted by an instant frostbite, as the shell over her cocoon is shattered. The frostbite is a blessing and a curse, as it causes the person inflicted to become immune to the 2hour Diamond Dust, but also creates a degenerative DoT which reduces the player's max HP gradually for the rest of the fight, even if killed and reraised.

During the fight, the party must both avoid being cornered by Shiva and avoid falling stalactites, as either can spell disaster... With one exception:

The most effective way for a party to survive the 2-hour, Diamond Dust, is to have the party lined up immediately behind the one affected by frostbite. However possible as it may be to do this, the simplest place to pull this off without fail is in Shiva's own cocoon, with the frostbitten player blocking the entrance (and the party). Party may be required to "kill"/shatter any new ice that reformed over is entrance during the fight, in order to take advantage of it.

    Thoughts?

Cool thread. That Ramuh concept is quite detailed and challenging lol. And i like the Leviathan one involving craft and gather, though i doubt they would do that at this point since craft/gather seems to be going towards solo play only now.
