But the reality of the point your trying to make is moot.
Flipping your camera via mouse is just as fast as a button seriously...it's not some task that requires years of practice and ultimate dexterity that you seem to be making it out as.
Your "Rear targeting" skills will be thwarted just as often if we had free reign over our character movements, and thankfully be able to not become nacious from the hillarious ammounts of camera flipping.
There's an actual difference, which you seem to ignore. Very few, in comparison to all people who would play a given game, can actually spin their character around that quickly, and face in the direction they want most or all of the time. Flipping the stick in reverse is far simpler and quicker. But the reality of the point your trying to make is moot.

I did find it a little weird to just " Magically" flip directions though, I mean I got used to it in the end, but at first for like a month I was hard to adjust.
In the end it didn't matter, because what actually mattered was the game itself. Controls are only 10% of the Gameplay Experience. The the rest spread out through Music/Lore/Visuals etc. In the end, those that hate it will adjust ( Most likely) and those that love it won't complain about it.
Why does this sound like your argument is going in a hillarious direction?
Either way I stand by my point being a player who has done both in many games, it's not as big an issue as your making it out to be. It's a shame that your argument cruxes around such a slipshod point. Your basically telling me that Mouse turning is superior because a majority of people (This assumption is terribly false by the way) can't control their character the way they want to control them?
Lord is me, the day that everyone can actually control their character without disco dancing with their camera is the day PVP and "Hardcore" content dies.
I adjusted because I like the game overall. However, I didn't like the controls/restrictions in both locked and non locked states. Sure you could backpedal while locked, but you had rather severe movement restrictions. Unlocked you could move freely, but couldn't backpedal properly.
You know even if they weren't going to support both control methods (99% sure they will) it would be fairly easy to just add a extra command for backpedaling, a one button toggle if you will so you could backpedal/strafe even while unlocked.
Hopefully this whole argument is moot when they roll out the new control schemes in Beta and everyone can be happy...well maybe asides PVPers who can't fathom people not needing L337 skillz to turn.
I've done both as well. I also never stated one was superior to the other, just that depending on the game, it can cause issues. I even stated it likely WON'T be an issue in this game. To me, the act of being able to instantly switch a full 180 degrees without actually turning, is wrong. Why does this sound like your argument is going in a hillarious direction?

As a side note, I'm not calling for a change, I never do that for a game. If the game gets to the point I feel my dislikes outweigh my likes, I don't play. I don't try to force my view on others, I however will point out my opinions and why I have them. Who knows, maybe someone never thought of it my way.
I'm no 1337 PVPer whatsoever. I like it to a degree, but i'm far from being awesome at it. For me it's not about the skill, but about it just not sitting right in my head. You know even if they weren't going to support both control methods (99% sure they will) it would be fairly easy to just add a extra command for backpedaling, a one button toggle if you will so you could backpedal/strafe even while unlocked.

"Wait, how did he just instantly face the other direction without actually turning" I understand the why and how, I just however do not agree in the slightest.
meanwhile, in an alternate dimension...
i find it hard to believe most of you are functional adults in real lifeFlipping your camera via mouse is just as fast as a button seriously...it's not some task that requires years of practice and ultimate dexterity that you seem to be making it out as.
