This topic has been beaten to death here:

There is no need to go through this again.
Alpha supported keyboard/mouse only. You will have to wait till beta to see the controller UI behavior. Since this will be release for PS3 I'm sure SE isn't that dumb to keep backpedaling for controller UI.

We can only hope.

Personally, I want to walk backwards all the time.
I like frog

I like backsteps because it would make me to use keyboard/mouse more than a controller. What's your problem?Hi everyone ...
Just want to share my idea about this issue ..
I played many MMO ...
i find the while moving/fighting ... backpedaling isn't a good choice... Running back is better way of moving ... back steps will be available when locking on a target ..
Many ppl that didnt play wow style games will find it difficult and might hate this game in launch
BTW, I love your signature.

I HATE X FEATURE CUZ ITS IN WOW OGM!Z>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I fixed it a bit ^^
I mean, for what is slow backpedaling good? For what purpose is it better than turning around and run back with the face forward? Even if you don't target anything? I have always the feeling this is some shooter thing.

I much prefer backsteps (stepping backwards, backpeddling, whatever it's termed). I always thought it was unintuitive how moving backwards would actually make your character turn around and run toward the camera. I got excited to see this change in the preview videos.

Backpeddling isn't bad imho. I play other MMO's that had it but then again I play with a Mouse/Keyboard so I don;t know how it affects controller users. ( I am the type of person that adjust to what I am playing). Some people have a hard time adjusting to change, and that is understandable. In the end if it stays the way it is, it's either adjust or don't play. There will be people that will play the game and others won't.
Thankfully the developers have said multiple times, movement like 1.0 (No backpedaling if not locked on target) Will return, so people have options.
