I've honestly never had that problem with the wacom, I wanted a cintiq so bad but I have to /really/ look at what I'm doing up-close since my eyes are so bad. When I draw I lean in pretty close to the monitor so I can see every detail clearly (even while zoomed in haha), I could never do that con a cintiq, I'd get killer neck ache lol.
You can totally tell where you're starting at on a wacom, if you hover the pen over the worksurface, the mouse pointer moves (sorcery, I tell you!).
