    what i saw today could get people more interested in FFXIV:ARR

    went into my local GAME store today and as i walked in i Saw posters about elders scroll online beta.
    As i was stood in the queue i had 2 people in front of me asking about the Elders scroll beta to the staff member.
    when i was paying for my game (DmC i bought) i asked the staff member if he had many customers asking about the Elders scroll online beta and he said he had quite alot of people who are interested in playing the beta and i thought why isnt S-E doing this for the FFXIV:ARR beta?
    i thought it was an interesting way to advertise the beta in shops people buy games saying that, i did register for the beta as i got home >.> i'm sorry '; ;

    The problem is that this was done before, and will more likely offer a chance for shops to downplay and blast the game for "going to beta twice."

    Marketing has always been Squenix's Achilles' heel's tendon's weak point. But in this case it's quite simple:

    TESO has three hundred million Ameriland Fun Bucks behind it.
    FFXIV does not.

    If I had $300M to blow on another big-promise, no-delivery MMO, I'd throw money at advertising the beta for my game too. Still, I don't think FFXIV stands to gain anything by widely advertising its beta after the 1.0 incident. Unlike most betas, in which you are basically playing a demo, FFXIV must necessarily change between beta and retail. Meanwhile, TESO can ride the hype wagon all the way to release day; the beta itself is as much a promotional tool as the poster you saw at GAME.

    If Squenix would spend any advertising dollars on FFXIV, I'd hope it would be for a full and complete game.

    It's a little early, yeah. When the game is ready for retail release then we could expect that they'd be more focused on advertising. Right now they need to focus on actually making the game worth playing. TESO is doing beta soon as well (I guess), but that game and this one are completely different in terms of what they should be doing.

    FFXIV will gain population based on actual word-of-mouth and not on giant false advertisements. SE has already spent so much money on the game and am sure they would rather put any money they could spend on advertising, into the game rather.

    couldn't have said it better. for the most part it'd do more harm then good for ARR advertising now. given the history of 14 along with SE admitting failure, then currently trying to revamp/fix the game any news, advertisements etc etc too soon will point out that the game is still in the process of being fixed/remade/revamped what have you.

    Advertising is good but doing it now when its not in a state next to retail or a complete game is bad, for the most part ppl will point out the game was bad before & on top of that ppl will not see enough progress, difference, etc etc from its original state.

    Even if they do decide to promote this through storesellers, they'd probably only limit this to their homebase, Japan.

    This reminds me of how every new MMO regardless of origin proclaims itself to be innovative, fresh, the MOST exciting, the MOST fun of any online game you've ever seen. At this point in the game MMO's have been around for so long they have to know they're not fooling anyone with those played out lines. Although completely uninterested in TESO, I looked the game up and they're parroting these same phrases we've been hearing for years (or reasonable facsimiles) and from what I see, I'm unimpressed.

    FFXIV 1.0 really did the same thing but that they attempted to really create an innovative game that in the end fell flat.

    Coming from a developer like Bethesda, I think it's funny though that TESO claims such things. Maybe players just want to hear that when buying a game....
