edit: lol okay Lady and me had the same idea.

like i said early they want to allow us to use our smart phone to buy and sell item and maybe chat with our friends.I like the idea. I mean if you low on gil you will know asap.
I think it would be neat to be notified on you phone but then you phone would have to allow you to play, well not play but log in like in phone mode like if you in you moog house you could access you character via you phone for that particular area and be able to chat with your LS or FC via text , would also need to have a mini game like idk crafting or something. idk with the graphics and such probably far fetched but would defiantly be cool.
yoshi-p said he also want to allow us to send our baby chocobo from game to smart phone take care of him there and when you get home put him back to the game if you like not sure about this one but the buying/selling and talking to friends with smart phone seem like something that could easy do.

Could you imagine being at work *recieve a notification on your phone* "YEEEESSSSSS MY HQ LANCE OF AWESOMENESS SOLD FOR 20MIL!!!!!!!" *looks around at confused faces staring*like i said early they want to allow us to use our smart phone to buy and sell item and maybe chat with our friends.

Pretty much this is all that's needed. For those who love their immersion, the letter can come from your primary retainer, if you have one (who doesn't?) or the adventurer's guild patron/matron of your home city if you do not have a retainer.Seems weird to me if it just makes the alert sound at any time. You could be fighting, walk off or be listening to music and completely miss it. A sound seems unnecessary anyway. Just send a letter to the moogle and alert players that way so they know what sold and when without any need to do much else.
Additionally, does anyone really need to know an item sold when they aren't in game? Doesn't seem like it's that important, imo.

well usually in game that has notification, it usually appears as a glowing symbol close to minimap. so when you got mail, or sold an item it glows a little, otherwise it's grayed out. it might be some small sound also, but nothing intrusive; and it's no biggie if you just miss the sound anyways. It's not like the money will dissapear if you don't claim it fast ^^
i like this idea, reminds me of the tamagotchi or how the dreamcast did chao raising on the old VMU'sI think by expanding into mobile device apps FFXIV:ARR could really set themselves apart form other MMO's
Thanks Rukkirii
Quite a while back we mentioned that we were looking into having a feature that would let you know once an item was purchased from your retainer, as well as an icon you could click to confirm which items were purchased.
We are planning to implement these features during the Beta Test in two phases:
- Beta Test Phase 1: Alert feature that lets you know you sold something
- Beta Test Phase 3: Feature that lets you check the purchased item history
The alert feature will make a specific sound when you log into the game if an item was purchased.
