PvP can be fun, sometimes I just think its a shame we won't have open world PvP on a dedicated PvP instance of the server (so people who only want to PvE can do that) that could get fun with the Grand Companies duking it out for control of areas.
I just dont want the scene to die out on some severs but not others, cutting us off from getting together with folks. I remember that being a problem with ballista after a while. Thankfully there's the Colosseum. =)
That's kinda because they have other departments working on the game. It's not going to be that big forever. We don't need another PVP vs PVE thread... I'm sure this was debated before.
Given that the "Dev team size is currently 9 times the size of the original team" you don't need to worry about PVE content being sacrificed for PVP content.
OP may be trolling to start a PVE VS. PVP war, so please don't feed her.

I'm in favor of adding PvP to the game as long as it's not a hindrance on PvE content or combat.
I like both. It is nice they are giving us a specific area or..areas? to PVP instead of open worldnot really a fan of getting killed when fighting a NM or just trying to exp lol >.>
Been looking forward to pvp for a while now!
Because the Colosseum is a PvP instance they could put it in the content finder, then this would not be a worry.
Uhm... I'm not really sure what you're trying to say, but the game iwll have both PvP and PvE content. There is no reason you can't have something for everyone.yet other people discussion?
I'm in favor of PvE content!
I PvE in MMORPG of Guild Wars II intense play.
but FINAL FANTASY XIV from FINAL FANTASY XIV A Realm Reborn spec down.
then large scale of PvE tough as think.
but PvE of implement, FINAL FANTASY XIV A Realm Reborn interest in I think.
that global MMORPG to aim for the top vital content is think.
other MMORPG player to FINAL FANTASY fan even if not FINAL FANTASY XIV A Realm Reborn interest in may.
that of worldwide reputation title and get succeed key get may.
that very great I think.
PvP died in FFXI because there was no reward or incentive to participate, and you had to do an annyoing run around the world quest just to participate, and once you did that, signing up to join was a pain and you can't just do it whenever you want...I just dont want the scene to die out on some severs but not others, cutting us off from getting together with folks. I remember that being a problem with ballista after a while. Thankfully there's the Colosseum. =)
In FFXI, you didn't get anything except a title that goes away after a short time, and you got to take some of your friend's gil, and for an hour of your time you got EXP that is now roughly equivalent to killing a single strong mob in a party.
Ballista was a lot of fun if you played it for what it was (rather than using it as a vehicle for 1v1 duels)- the teamwork required was strong, the balance was decent for the most part (when you factor in party/team roles), it simply failed because there was nothing to attract people to join in.

I would like to see some interesting pvp in FFXIV. I think it would have been more popular in the previous title if the rewards actually meant something.
What concerns me about the implementation of PvP is how much they focus on it, not so much because they might not deliver just as much in PvE content (shouldn't be much of an issue with such a gigantic dev team), but because of the implications it may have on the combat system.
What worries me about this is that they will have to try and balance each combat class to be competitive in PvP (which will absolutely end up happening if they're going to be serious about PvP), which might affect the PvE aspect of the game in some way - a negative one, most likely.
Accommodations for PvP will only be in effect for PvP. PvE will not suffer for it. They've already designed the abilities with both in mind. What concerns me about the implementation of PvP is how much they focus on it, not so much because they might not deliver just as much in PvE content (shouldn't be much of an issue with such a gigantic dev team), but because of the implications it may have on the combat system.

PvE and PvP can coexist and have every right to. Neither side is more entitled to have the game made for them than the other. I have every confidence that they are making the best effort possible to keep both play styles as balanced and fair as possible.
This was not an issue in FFXI- They did not redesign WHM or BRD to be better at beating people up for instance. These classes that are not the best at direct combat are sitll valuable to have in PvP for their party roles. That being said, even in 1.0 FFXIV, with no PvP in the picture, all classes were at least competent in combat to the extent that they can all solo- and that's as far as it needs to go.
I hate it when cynicism rules the day and people assume that PvP has to ruin PvE or that they both have to ruin each other.

They made abilities just for PVP so it wont effect PVEWhat concerns me about the implementation of PvP is how much they focus on it, not so much because they might not deliver just as much in PvE content (shouldn't be much of an issue with such a gigantic dev team), but because of the implications it may have on the combat system.
