ARR and Voice over IP

I wonder if they could provide a ps3 only service that let you send into that open source chat client (doesnt have to be this one, but there would need to be some method setup by SE or setup-able by the player to connect as a ps3 user to voice chat). In that way the ps3 players can talk to the PC players so long as there is a third party server (which would receive and then distribute the data), which means SE wouldn't have to censor any of it.. (still would cost money though lol).

I just dont think its idealistic to expect all ps3 players to have a laptop, their ps3 by their tower, or a smart phone. Put a warning on the ps3 game box "if you dont have one of the following our intense dungeons are going to be a giant PIA, also people will be less likely to try a dungeon with you".

Not a lot of linkshell ask you for TS,mumble,vent and the once that do most of the time they don't even talk. If you smart enough to learn how to do dungeon without the help someone telling what to do every step then you be fine. Maybe ps4 can have 3rd party chat system and run games at the same time i know that not a fix for the ps3 but noting can be done sadly.

I do have a feeling the ps3 and pc could end up having there own linkshell due to voice chat and addon that PC have over the PS3. Even tho yoshi-p said that dev would add the best and most use addon on pc to ps3 it would take months to see any of it being done to for ps3

i hope i'm wrong about pc and ps3 being not together tho that would suck.

In the final boss battle, I was surprised that a leader can pop some number icons on top of monsters for his/her party members to see what to kill next. Even, sub-mobs respawn around the boss, a leader can modify all icons like "change the number 1 icon on top of the boss to cancel" without telling party members what to do. It seems we can fight everything even without a keyboard or headset.

If you have played Portal 2 online then you would know what I mean though.

Yep i know 100% what you mean let's just hope people like using the system and it simple to use without having to stop what you doing just to set the mark on the boss,mobs

Just don't get the game on PS3 and you're golden..

Even with in-game VoIP, I will still be using vent.

I still think this is gonna turn away a lot of ps3 players away arguably the dumbest decision they made for ps3 players. Pretty sure once the ps3 players get vocal on the forums they may have to change their mind.

i wouldn't either, im not about to type 3000 word's just to explain a single stage of a fight. if your really that shy or anti social all you need to do is listen in.

id only vote yes if SE decides to house a separate server for VoIP, otherwise the strain would be too much on the servers.

SOCOM for PS2 has voice chat. The PSP and PSVita also have built-in mics plus include the ability to run Skype (which is replacing MSN). There are various gaming headsets for the PS3 as well. So the PS3 obviously is more than capable at voice chat. Why wouldn't it? There are as many headset's for PS3 as for PC! Take a look yourself.

The *REAL* issue is, not everyone wants to get a headset. Not everyone wants to do what's necessary for it to work properly. And, not everyone speaks fluent English as may have a harder time being understood.

The only time I've found voice chat useful is when it's just me and one or two other people. Even when in a group of 20, I don't need to hear everyone in the group. Just the people in the group I enjoy talking too. For everyone else, I just "text" them instead of ringing them up.
