I failed to understand why people only chooses to read what they want, and not what is written ...
Possibilities of deletion exists, it cannot be more clearly stated then that.* Circumstance may necessitate the deletion of character data.

You must of played alot of f2p betas then, cause for normal there is a wipe after beta. I played alot betas too in the last 10 years and i remember alot wipes between beta and release.
If characters created carry over, it's not a wipe, or characters would be wiped too.
If there's a wipe, characters wont carry over.
So since they say chars carry over, there wont be a wipe.
They say there MIGHT be a wipe depending on circumstances, but not so high probability. Again if there is a wipe, chars wont carry over anyways; Because they can't just save everyone's lv1 chars, and delete all progression; Because not everyone will create their chars at same time. And there's no point at all to save peoples lv1 chars anyways.
It is highly unlikely that this would happen. That statement is there to cover their ass in case something bad happens. It wouldn't look good on their end if Phase 4 had a major issue that required them to dump data. Some people would get riled up by it. So with this message, if it happens, they can simply say "Welp, we warned you!".
Personally, I will have a hearty laugh at all the rage that will occur when they do indeed make a wipe between beta > retail.
Kitty still landed on his feet!!
But regarding wipe, I side with SE:
- We'll have v1 characters with progress at launch.
- Planned wipe after beta phase 3, starting again with characters at v1 progress at the start of beta phase 4.
- Planning not to reset characters to v1 progress after phase 4.
I believe we all know what the beta schedule road map states
"- Characters created during this phase will be carried over to the official release."
and
"* Circumstance may necessitate the deletion of character data"
But what OP is asking is.. something along the lines of what this is saying.
snip
"However, before the official service start we will be releasing a benchmark software which allows character creation which can import ver 1.x character data. So if you would like to import your data, please remember to keep the character data stored in FFXIV folder under My Documents > My Games > FINAL FANTASY XIV (default)"
One can assume character progress while another could assume character feature data (used in the character creation screen.) What the OP is asking is which.. Will we be keeping our character feature data, and our progress data, or just our feature data?
(because as you saw Triairy is referring to character data being just the characters feature data.)
If they are the same:
If they are in fact the same thing, (all the data is both progress and features) then whoever deleted FFXIV 1.0 will not keep their progress. In which case, there will be a major rage fest unleashed. (because Yoshida gave the "ok" to delete the FFXIV 1.0 client, which contained the data as did Triairy in his OP.)
If They are different:
If they are different then its only character feature data, meaning what you are importing is just the features or "looks" of the character not its progress data. Thus, whoever deleted FFXIV 1.0 client is safe, except they cannot import data for the benchmark (which isnt a big deal) but this also means that the data referred to as "character data" in the ARR schedule is just the "feature" and "looks" data used during character creation (not its progression being carried over into release.)

uhm data was saved by SE, so i dunno how importing will work, but it wont have anything to do with 1.0 client.I believe we all know what the beta schedule road map states

And in ARR you'll re-make your char anyways, but im sure char look is saved by SE also.
it would be pretty odd if you uninstall game, come back and play later, and progress is lost, cause you deleted client...
Yeah I personally assume its just our character creation data. Which then leads to us not keeping our character progression data into the retail version from beta phase 4.uhm data was saved by SE, so i dunno how importing will work, but it wont have anything to do with 1.0 client.
