    Indeed.

Also Naoki Yoshida said many times in interviews where Samurai and/or Musketeer was brought up that FFXIV currently has too few Disciple Of Magic classes compared to Disciples Of War and before he adds anymore Disciples of War, he would add another Disciple Of Magic. Adding Arcanist as a starting class is the simplest and most balanced way to help rectify that, and free them up to add things like firearms, katana, and clubs/mace/hammer classes.

Now I suspsect that we'll also see Musketeer added at launch. I can see lore-wise how Limsa Lominsa would go all NRA after the Bahamut attack, and open up the Musketeer Guild for everyone. That way starting off, you'll have these options (remember you can no longer start as a Disciple Of Hand or Land anymore).

    Limsa Lominsa:
    • Arcanist Guild
    • Marauder Guild
    • Musketeer Guild

    Ul'dah:
    • Thaumaturge Guild
    • Gladiator Guild
    • Pugilist Guild

    Gridania:
    • Conjurer Guild
    • Archer Guild
    • Lancer Guild

Every starting city would have it's own Disciple Of Magic guild and 2 Disciple of War guilds. It's not a 1:1 balance, but it is a proportional balance that makes sense ... and would be extendable to new cities.

    Holy City Of Ishgard:
    • Mysticist Guild
    • Enforcer Guild
    • Fencer Guild

    Hopefully SMN makes it worthwhile.
Sure is a good thing that ARN isn't a job then, innit?

So far all classes in FFXIV are available to us from the start. Why should people get a healer, nuker, tank, DD etc but no pet class option at the start?...

    o.O

Those are 5 basic classes available to folks when they start any MMO. When I first saw that FFXIV did not have a pet class in 2010 I was like wtf. Now...the JOBS are where we have to do quests and such. Also each class in FFXIV has a series of quests you can do to get lore and such with. I don't see what the big issue is >.<

You didn't need to unlock any of the other classes.....Classes are basically weapon changes. It would be weird to have to LEARN how to hold a.....book.

    You'll have to unlock Summoner.

After all the work they've done and you're going to accuse them of a "massive cop out"? Give me a break. Show some appreciation.

After all the work they've done? HA. You mean, the work they should have done in the first place? Appreciation is earned pal.

It's not wrong to expect that Arcanist would have needed to been unlocked in some fashion. It should not be a base class because it wasn't put in at launch. What was stopping me from putting on an Arcanist weapon before? How come I can now all of a sudden? I don't find this acceptable. New classes/jobs should have an unlock quest. Base class or not.

Given the size of the team, and how their other games dev cycles are being slowed down to a crawl because of this mess. I expect quality, not quick and easy.

Perhaps that was a poor choice of words on my part. However you get the drift. Why so few Arcanist's before, and now everyone is invited to take up the book? These are things they could have explained through an introductory quest. Learning the first few spells and gaining some background knowledge on the roll.

Well, Arcanist is a "Class" so in that Regards to 1.0 of course there's no special Quest to get it. However when summoner is released, I'm 99.9999999999 percent sure you have to do a mission of sorts to obtain it.

Arcanist was already clearly stated to be the lead in to Summoner. Dont know how you got Red Mage, the weapon is a book...

As for the "massive cop out" they wanted to try to balance out the DoW and DoM classes, so far there are only two DoM's to start. I'm glad they are providing more starting options. I also agree that with a future expansion if they decided to add in new classes that having the guild in a new city you would need to go and earn that class. I'm fine with that, in fact I encourage that. But for this single new job they are adding in at launch of ARR, I'm glad its a starter.
