What's the story behind your character's name?

[Forgo]

Forgo is a play on the name Frodo from Lord of the Rings and the name of d and d chara I made that was a pld lol the name kinda stuck and I used it In ffxi as my first chara I made in that game. After I left ffxi to go to the army the old forgo from ffxi was lost and since you can't name a new chara with a old name on ffxi I decided to name my chara on ffxiv that. the cool thing is i was able to make a chara that kinda looked like the old forgo but changed him to suit the change in worlds lol

My name comes from my favorite game series, Suikoden. I took the names of my two favorite characters Killey and Georg Prime and mooshed them together. Not too creative but it ended but flowing nicely I thought, so I kept it.

[Soonkyu]

My forum name comes from 순규, which is the real first name of Korean pop-star 이순규 (Lee Soon-kyu) a.k.a Sunny of 소녀시대 / SNSD / Girls Generation. Soonkyu is also the name of my SWTOR Sith Assassin.

My first XIV character was Sunny Lee.

My second and main character is Ghent Marik. Ghent comes from Zakarisz Ghent, a slicer (hacker) from the Star Wars Extended Universe. Ghent was extremely intelligent, but also a bit naive. As it was my character in FFXI (which was my first MMO), I thought it highly appropriate given how clueless I was about the game at first (in the beginning I was DRG/MNK... /sob). Ghent is something one of my RL friends still calls me to this day, so I recycled it for XIV. Marik is a slight change from Marek (Galen Marek), which I came up with while spinning in my chair, trying to find a suitable last name, and happened upon my Star Wars: The Force Unleashed case.

I have had the nick Deathstix (in one word actually, but in FF XIV I split it in two so it became Death Stix) ever since I had internet (maybe back in 1996). It was a "name" given by someone to a musical instrument that I sometimes play on, the piccolo. For those of you who know this, a piccolo in the wrong hands.... can kill! LOL. Kill your ears that is, hence the "deathstick", I changed it to "deathstix" because back in the old days of IRC (Internet Relay Chat) your nickname was limited to only 9 characters.

An unintended consequence from this is... sometimes ingame others address me by my first name... Death... when really it should be "Stix" if you wanna cut it short. So imagine this...

My name ingame is "Jojimbo Matsumoto"

Jojimbo - Comes from Yojimbo which is my favourite Primal from FFX and i believe it means "Bodyguard" or "Protector"
The name Yojimbo was taken when i started playing FFXI, so I had to change it abit and I decided to stick with it in FFXIV.

Matsumoto - When I started to play XIV I found out that we could have a secondary name which I really liked, because now i could choose my name with more meaning. One of my favourite shirts had the name Matsumoto on it and I looked the name up and found it to be a family name with origins from a very long time back. It means "Pine tree" which i found funny, because I always found walking in the woods relaxing here where I live in Norway. And pine trees are my favourite tree of them all. In my younger years I had hundreds of drawings of pine trees in my drawing book, so it just fell natural for me to be the "Protector of the Pine tree".

I wish the Lifa tree to be a Pine Tree so I can protect it. XD
Anyways, I hope it is translated correctly.

The name Eekiki is nonsense. Meaningless. I made it all up.

As for my current FFXIV character: Wikipedia can answer better than me. It's a pretty sad story, I think...

[Soukyuu]

Soukyuu (蒼穹) is "azure" or "azure sky" in Japanese, and I really like the color of the sky, especially right after clouds clear after a brief rain that clears out all of the dust. I've been using "Azure" as my nick for some time, but as you can imagine, it's quite common (one reason being that blue is one of the most common favorite colors). At that time I just started learning Japanese and heard the term "soukyuu" for the first time in Soukyuu no fafner. Since then, I've been using it as my nick.

Now, FFXIV was the first time a game wanted the first AND last name from me. In beta I just went for Yuri Soukyuu (azure lily) for my testchar, but at release I decided to play a male lalafell. So now I needed a first name...

I don't remember how exactly I ended up choosing Crim, but it was partially a certain game having the saying "crimson and azure become as sun", .hack//SIGN's Crim and a play on words "crimsoukyuu = crimson soukyuu = Crimson Azure".

So basically it ended up being a concept of the calm, blue sky and the crimson opposite.
A sort of ying-yang, I guess.

Talshara Blade as far as I know was original. I didn't get it from anywhere that I know of.

I keep reading that as "Tal Rasha" all the time!
