What's the story behind your character's name?

This is the back story I had created for My character during the "Team Hair" vs "Team Stache" feud with Krausus Dracul waaay back in My early days with Seraphim on Mysidia.I apologize in advance for the long post.



A long time ago,in a galaxy far far away...That's a different story,for another time.As the story goes, our journey begins in the land of Eorzea off the coast of La Noscea, where the Grimlock family was on vacation.Out at sea on their vessel "Cait sith's Luck" when they where caught in the middle of a terrible storm.The only survivor was the young Grimlock child who was found stranded with the ships wreckage by the Dread Pirate Weasley.Now keep in mind that in those days DPW was a man to be feared,but yet he sensed something in the young lalafell and took him in as part of his crew on "The Pirate Ship Revenge".

Many years are have said to passed and Grimlock had become one of the most respected axe men in all the land.One cold dreary night the pirate ship revenge was attacked by a band of rouge pirates,intent on stealing the ship for themselves.Out of the corner of his eye,Grimlock saw a Roegadyn weilding an axe enter the Captains chambers,fearing He was too late Grimlock rushed in after him where he was greeted with a swing of the axe that cut right through our hero's mighty beard,like a clean shave to the chin.Grimlock watched as what was his beard fell to the floor,then back up...into the assassins eye's.The assasin now frozen in his track's was petrified not only because his blow had missed,but he had revealed the most glorious MOUSTACHE the land had ever known.His gaze was broken only by Grimlock's axe...which now was buried inside of the assassin's skull.Grimlock now rushed over to his captain's side,but it was as he feared the assassin had got to him first,but in his dying breath DPW said to Grimlock"My God,What a glorious stache!!!you shall be feared and respected by all...With that I leave you my ship...CAPTAIN GRIMLOCK" and then he was gone.

Years after assuming command Captan Grimlock discovered a chest in his captain's quarters labeled "Cait Sith's Luck" apon opening the chest he found some remnants of his past,which he had long forgot,including his fathers adventure's journal from the great city of Ul'dah.He thought to Himself..."Now the Adventure begins. Shortly after reaching Ul'dah the Captain partnered with a young Pugilist by the name of David Banner who was growing in reputation as "Hulk" together hulk and the Captain joined the ranks of Seraphim, a prestigious linkshell from what they had heard.Everyone in Seraphim welcomed The Captain with open arms,except one...Krausus Dracul,who hid his jealousy of the Captain because before "THE STACHE" arrived he had the best hair the linkshell ...possibly even all Eorzea. Now there is only one choice left to make;team hair or...
TEAM STACHE!!!

Not much to it.. Pretty random I guess.
I wanted a name with "lyn" in it because of an important person. I've always wanted to use "Isa" for the start of a name.. so they just sort of came together.

Vanille was just a random name I made up ages ago as a nickname because I'm pretty obsessed with anything vanilla. I just like names that end in "e" better than "a."

I've always wanted to see a thread like this! (Never did one myself though.... That would have been a good idea I guess. Oh well!)

Rex has always been a name that I like. So, I picked Rex. As for the last name, Xylon... (pronounced Z-eye-lon)..well. I looked up male names that have letters I like. Like X, or Z. I came across Xylon, which means "Wanderer of the Forest"..and thought it was fitting because I had chosen Gridania as my starting City-State. Originally my last name was Xander..but that was in Alpha / Beta of 1.0.

I also like to make my character look like me. Luckily, for some reason, Square Enix seems to know exactly what I look like some how and my character is like a spitting image of me. (aside from the blue tattoo on his face)

So basically, the midlander Hyur in all the trailers and videos looks like me in real life! XD

EDIT: Saw someone post about their Chocobo's name! I wanted to share mine!

My Chocobo's name is Lyric! Named after a baby horse I met when I was a child on a reserve in South Dakota. I think it's a very fitting name for a chocobo! (Kweh! Kweh!) I wanted to adopt him so bad. But it just never happened. I wonder how he is...

The Story about my name.. Well, When I was playing Suikoden Tiekreis, (first playthough) The Term "Mark of the Stars" was used in reference to the 108 people (Stars) that will save the world from destruction, and I ( the Leader of the Stars) was there to guide them to Victory, Thus my name then became "Starlord".

Starlord, do you know your sig is different in the most current version of that footage? XD It's like they saw your sig and said "No, too many emotions in one second." And then changed it to be less drastic.

I wanted a name fitting of Ul'dah. I saw this city as middle eastern based, so I started researching middle eastern names.

I wanted something that reminded me of my favorite XIV character, Naja Salaheem.

So I started reading up on arabic names, and based on its pronunciation and meaning I chose this...

Majidah : Glorious
Sihaam : Arrows

(And I ended up being a bard, without planning on becoming one!)

My chocobo was named following the same trend. It's called...

Faridah : Exceptional, unique, precious

A lot of middle eastern gamers have asked me if I'm from an arabic country, so I must have done a good job ^_^

I was on my screen when I was trying to choose the best combinations of hair, voice, body and style about my Miqo'te, when while I was done with everything I was prompted to input her name.
The name itself was easy, I just had to think about something short and of impact, and of course in the Japanese style, so I hitted my face with a Coca-Cola can and I came out with Renshi.
After recovering from the can cuts I was prompted the Surname. This one I wanted it to be pretty unique and of impact. As soon as I thought of those, a bird flew and hit my window, and it was like "FWHYAH!" and flew away. Brain cells generating electricity made my head come out with 'Hyatsuki.'

Probably 10% of what I said is true.
Also, Renshi's character is born from my doggie's character, being excited, fiery and stuff~

I know! I can't even take credit for it either! I remembered seeing a similar .gif waaaaay back when the movie 300 was released (with King Leonidas pasted over) and then out of nowhere I thought "Hey, why not make one for FFXIV?" I tried to make it, it didn't work out so well and when I mentioned it on the FFXIV meme thread, Digirotta went and made it awesome.

[Kibo]

'Kibo' is Japanese for the pronunciation of my old online handle, which in turn is a derivation of my old childhood nickname. 'Kaseki' is derived from 'Kasei' which means Mars which I got from my real name.

I always try to make spin-offs of my own name or person when making online nicknames. It's a fun process, especially when you try to figure out a completely new name. Kibo Kaseki is a far cry from what I started out with. :>
