What's the story behind your character's name?

Rekarus was just a name I made up on the spot one day and added it to my list of possible usernames.

Lios is part of my old user name for other games like FFXI flipped around, Dgsoil, which was complete gibberish and often got me mistaken for a gil seller.

My chocobo was named after a friend's user name, Shaiming, who was a constant static partner in most situations.

My retainers are Dgsoil (once again, just gibberish) and Nighteyes who was named after another person in my life's mule.

[Valan]

Story and meaning of ours characters name... Interesting.

Main:
All my main characters in every RPG and MMORPG are named Valan Aradan because Valan is the rough quenya translation of my IR name. Val- from Vala (Valar), -an from anna (gift).
Aradan will be the name of my house in fantasy, tolkien-like world, and it means "man of outer world" . Ar- (outer world), -adan from edain (man).
Companion: a female lalafell conjured named "shantotto" . Trivial choice but I like "shantotto" in Dissidia FF
Chocobo: "chupathing" from red vs blue (bow chika bow wow)

Alt1: Sarah Dòxa
In a old RPG forum Sarah is the gender-bender version of Valan. Sarah is a random name. Dòxa in philosophy is the false opinion, the error, the opposite of episteme http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxa because she isn't a real woman but pretends to be it.

Alt2: Kalana Green
A simple name with a stupid meaning. Kalana mean "green" in quenya (or Sindarin. I don't remember). Green... Is green. She is a miqo'te with green fur. So... nomen omen

I love exotic-yet-simple-sounding names, and wanted to have an easter egg-like reference to myself in it through initials (in this case, the initials spelling out "me") or a play on my rl name, etc.

Masa's name was supposed to be Masaya, meaning "happy" in my family's Filipino language, but with the whole First/Last Name thing goin on, I shortened it to Masa to keep it simple for everyone.

After, I realized the Masa is a part of a bunch of male Japanese names, so I was all, "Well, awesome then. " Multiple meanings!

Eriza is a play on my own last name.

My alternates are nothing as serious. Maya, Olan, Yuuma, Tohwa are just names I like.

i named my guy bender rodriguez after, well, bender bending rodriguez in futurama. i had to change it when the servers merged, so i named him bender themagnificent, lol

I took my name from the anime Birdy the Mighty. Birdy's last name is Cephon, and she is an Alteran race.
So i just took her race, removed the N in AlteraN, and used Birdys last name.
And I just felt it had a nice ring to it when pronounced XD

[Losnol]

Well. Losna is a variation from Losnol (basicaly, on portuguese -- I'm brazilian so I speak portuguese. PS: Not "brazilian" or spanish like some ppl think >_< -- the letter "O "or some variation stands for male and "A" stands for female noun).

Losnol is my rl nickname (well. Some strange name that a gym instructor of a friend of my cousin invented for him. And then he start talking with my cousin by that name and my cousin started to call me by that name too. IDK what was on the mind of the instructor to invent that strange name T.T), and I wanted to do a female nickname for a female char. So I've changed the "OL" to "A" (as I've explained before).

Then I realized that Losna stands for Losna - Artemisia (cientific name for a type of a plant). I've tried then "Losna Artemisia", but there was already that name (then I thought - who would put that name on a character? O_o'). So I've tried Losna Artemisian and then it was ok!

Btw, never found the "Losna Artemisia" >_<.

Strange story, but for me it's kinda of fun and different, so I though it'll be nice to share with you guys.

[Renala]

Renala was a name I created many, many years ago. A friend once told me(On ffxi) that it was a flower or something.. Lunaria I researched some.. and I sadly don't remember what flower it was, but I was looking at flowers and greek/latin/something meaning to them. One of them lead me to Honesty/Forgetfulness. Its greek/latin name was "Lunaria". I know both are strong aspects of myself the player.. and thus, I decided on "Renala Lunaria".

For me the easiest part to explain is my surname, which since my character and account are linked with Final Fantasy XI, my surname took the name of my Final Fantasy XI server at that time, Asura.

My first name is a different story...I'm a huge Björk fan and most of my internet life I've usually used a song or album title for a username. Around the time I started Final Fantasy XI, the teasers for her new project featuring Timabland, Antony (from Antony and the Johnsons), Toumani Diabaté, Min Xiaofen and Konono Nº1 were starting to surface, and the album title had been announced a few days before I created my account. So I considered it, and thought it fit. It's easy and fast to spell, pronounce and isnt necessarily feminine or masculine. I don't think anything else could've worked better.
I'm the type of person that normally takes forever to name a character, even moreso than it takes to create them. But Volta was a easy pick.
