    Lifetime Subscription

Can we have it? Pretty please?

It works very well both for the developer (that can get a nice bundle of money on the short term from people that often would quit anyway on the long term) and for the customer, that can play all he wants without worrying one bit about monthly fees for the rest of his gaming life.

For those not familiar with lifetime memberships. It's simply a subscription option in which you pay a good chunk of money (normally around $150/300 depending on the game) all at once, and then you're considered subscribed for life. No more worrying about monthly fees.

It's great value for those that decide to go for it and feel that they'll stick with the game for a long time.

for the quality of this game it would have to $1,200 so I doubt this may happen... especially since one year costs between $120 and $144 already...

Lifetime Sub? Not many people can afford a big chuck of change like that. Year Subs? Yes I would hop on that actually.

    You'd be *extremely* surprised.

It's offered in games that don't really have any less quality (and we don't really know the "quality" of this game until launch anyway, please, let's keep the blind faith out of this discussion, shall we?).

And no. No matter the quality. No game would be worth over 1000 bucks for a lifetime.

That's the same a year costs on other games, yet they offer the option. There's a lot of difference between getting $150 from a customer and getting double or almost all in a nice initial bundle of cash, that can then be reinvested in expansion/evolution and other games.

Paying 1k in 1 lump sum? I can buy a New Computer with that kind of money all at once ( or upgrade my PC into more of a beast than it already is)

I rather pay for Yearly subs, 12 months without worrying about paying for it is good enough for me.

Where did I suggest 1K? No publisher in its right mind would *ever* ask 1K for a lifetime. The top you can find around is 300 bucks. They'd have to be completely drunk after new years' celebration to ask for 1K.

Good enough for you doesn't mean good enough for everyone. Not to mention that with "good enough", you don't make the "world class".

Lifetime subs are usually around $175-300. Usually it's the equivalent of 1.5-2 years of service.

Usually though, it's not offered forever, only at the game's launch to boost initial sales and income.

300 bucks life time? when 120*7=840 bucks? I highly doubt they will do that to lose 400 bucks per person that goes this route. They would lose money in the long run.

This may be overly naive but if ffxi lasted 9 years ffxiv could last 20 years... and value of 20 years of playing is easily past 1k...

    With a life time sub:

-The company is banking on you to either 1) quit before you exceed the value of the lifetime subscription in game time, OR

    - become a hardcore contributor to the game community and economy, making it easier for the monthly subscribers to stay in the game. It really does help them a lot to get the larger amount of cash up front, even if they end up losing money on you later. Content is developed waaay in advance, so the extra money means they can invest more into getting that content out sooner.

Especially with a new, unproven game, the lifetime sub can earn a company extra cash in the case where the game doesn't do well and the lifetime subbers end up quitting before they get their money's worth.
