Character name/appearance changes and the Beta/Launch transition?

I was curious about exactly when we're going to be allowed to re-roll our character models (and possibly names) as beta and launch approach, especially since our 1.0 data is being imported into phases 3 and 4 of beta. So I ask the devs: which of the following is how it will be?

• Re-roll at official launch only?
• Re-roll at beta import only and that choice gets carried over to launch?
• Re-roll at beta import, plus another chance to re-roll at official launch?
• Something besides the above three scenarios?

I ask because if it's say the second choice, I wouldn't want to make a mistake in beta that I get locked into and am unable to change at launch, or to have missed my chance to change anything.

I also hope you'll make it clear exactly how to carry over our data properly. From 1.0's beta to 1.0 launch, I apparently didn't do it right which is why my character's last name is Alcyoene instead of just Alcyone (because the intended spelling was locked out to be saved for the import, but I had messed up the account transition so needed to add the extra 'e') and in my SE account I have the inactive "FFXIV 1" and active "FFXIV 2", even though I've only ever purchased one copy of the game. That was a minor issue, sure, and so I didn't bother pursuing further action with customer support then, but now that we've invested a lot more time into our characters, I'm sure a great many others would be with me in not wanting to screw it up because of unclear directions.

I'm curious as well about the specificity of how data carry, avatar recreation and name changing will work with the different beta phases and launch phase.

At the very earliest I think it will be at phase 4 beta since all character progression from phase 3 will be deleted (this would include any adjustments to appearance), though I too would like to see a Dev's response to this question, I am curious!

Seeing how we may get early access to game before release i'm guessing during that time so once phase 4 ends is when we can rebuild and enter the game and play like normal and everything would be save. Now the question is would that early access mean only Legacy members? or they change the early access to being phase 4 of the testing i know i read somewhere we get early access before release so it could be once beta 4 ends or beta4 itself i don't think we get a answer to our question from a dev anytime soon but let's hope.

Yes, appearance change is a given, but I'm not so sure about name. I'm wondering if there will be some new models to choose from.

At phase 3 beta I think the roadmap said was when all of the CC options would be available^^ I am hoping for some new faces too lol

All this means to me for sure is that all the options will be available in the CC, i.e. for new characters, but I haven't seen anything about when using the CC at all is possible for editing previous existing characters that get imported. We know it's going to happen, the question is when...

I wish I could answer your question ; ;. My guess is beta phase 4 or start of early access (if that is beta phase 4 then consider those the same thing lol)
I am eagerly waiting word from the devs too, I'm very curious!

Good question OP I'm guessing to around Beta 4 but I would like an official answer.

Thinking a little more on it, I'd hope it's included in beta 3/4, because that seems like a crucial thing to test before making it go launch official. Wouldn't want people changing their appearance only to find out some bug in the import process caused them to lose previous progress. Still would be nice to know if that would be our only chance though.

Also... if we change genders (which I suspect many people will be for male miqo'te), what happens to all the gender-specific gear like swimsuits? Do they get converted to the male version for us? Do we cross-dress? Or just have some now un-equippable items in the inventory?
