Oh that is great! thanks for sharingThis.
Alpha testers (including myself) gave lots of feedback, and among it a lot of us agreed that the abilities were just a tad too flashy and too loud for being regular abilities. There was a dev response to this specifically, saying it would be adjusted/changed in Beta.
You need not worry about this until you see how Beta turns out.![]()

I like how people used single player titles and end class skills to justify there blindness to an overly appalling issue.
you start with meh looking skills and earn your holy shit i'm going blind over'ere ability's. there called passive progression rewards, games that don't have them get boring real quick.
I think balance is the point here. I love flashy moves, the flashier the better. However I do think how flashy an ability is should be dependant on how powerful the ability is. As an example, stone throw should be nowhere near as flashy (if at all) as flare. It goes without saying. If low level abilities are as flashy as the higher ones it kind of takes the awesomeness away from those higher tier abilities.
Personally I don't think SE would ever make this mistake, let's remember its Alpha and the levels only go up to 20. Maybe SE made the abilities flashier to give a visual example of higher tier abilities. Who knows. I also think playing a game and being an observer can give two completley different views. You might not even notice the flashyness when playing as you're focused on something else. I'd wait till beta and try it for youself and then see what you think.

I think they can adjust the brightness of them, that's for sure. Besides that, I don't really see anything wrong.
It's funny, only a few months ago was there a thread about wanting flashier animations.
Yeah I totally agree with this post, when you're looking at your screen trying to find out what kind of mob you're fighting... with a team of 4 players, I'm sorry it's way to flashy, what will it be with 8players team, or 24players oO ?...
Compared to v1.0 I can understand on Atomos it can be flashy we were quite a lot but with a 4players team... It was also less fluorescent in 1.0 than ARR. I was glad when they said it'll be less flashy. Can't wait to see differences between Alpha and Beta.![]()

I love how you can just speak for everyone?Hey hey - Watching all the latest video's of dungeons and party battles etc, there is a major overload of flashy spells and abilities going on, you can hardly see the mob they are attacking (in the dungeon) due to all the bright colours and flashes.
This is wayyyyy too much....It is going to give every one a major head ache and sore eyes.
This type of animation should be left for skill chains, and major spells abilities, not every single ability you have.
Oh well lucky for me I have legacy status, so will get to give it a go soon in the beta... maybe its not as bad as I think....
Thanks for reading
I don't get it. Too flashy, wtf? Well, everyone has different opinions of course, but I just don't see the "too flashy" in the animations. I mean, when compared to other Final Fantasy games, I think the flashiness in this game is rather mild! Sure, it might be more fancy and flashy than games like WoW or Rift (then again, combat animations in those games are basic, overdone, and a bit of a yawner), but really games like FF7, FF9, and even the handheld tactics games have way more flashiness. Drawing on inner strength and bringing out a godly burst of power to eliminate your foes with, that's one of the basic things that define the battle system of Final Fantasy. Geez, some of these people act like they've never summoned an eidolon before. lol
But you know, there will likely be an option to turn off the flashiness of battle animations in the settings. And if so, then good enough for the people who are complaining. As for me, I plan to go summoner, and part of the fun of being a summoner is watching the animation as the huge destructive angry god-beast you've beckoned from beyond the void appears and then proceeds to tear the place apart. lol Truth be told, I couldn't be happier with the flashiness. In fact, I only hope it gets even more over the top!
I'm with you. I was entertained by the drama and flash.
There was the other post I found highly entertaining from the standpoint of complete idiocy of someone stating that the problem with games lately is that people didn't complain. What forums or games were they playing? I go to every forum of every game I play and feel the older, old lady I am for the whining and complaining going on. If they try to make every whiner and complainer happy no one will end up happy. You can't go a page without it. In fact..didn't this thread start with someone complaining that they want the type of graphics going with spells and skills that other games have? You know the games with no flash and fun?
Yeah.. someday they will have their wish and all that will be out there is .. well you might as well go play WOW.

Yeah. The thing is I am .. truly over 50, and my eyesight isn't so hot, never has been but I just am not having the problems the poor little person you were responding to is having.
I wonder if he/she/they have considered that perhaps they need to go visit an optometrist because the problem isn't the game, it is them? If I am okay with my old tired eyes, what is his/her/their problem?

The effects are very large, some can cover almost all the body of the smaller mobs like opo-opos and personally, I cant stand losing sight of what I'm fighting every other hit. Another issue is that monsters are weightless and even normal attacks can shake a huge dullahan like it took a cannonball to the face.
I believe the character animation should be flashy, not the visual effects, a big example would be rage of halon where the swinging animation is well done but the light show that comes with it is too big, the thrash ws mnk gets is even bigger example where the screen almost entirely light up and you cant see yoyr character or the mob you're hitting.
