    I don't like animation lock BECAUSE it's bad game design- Not the other way around. Animation lock is totally unnecessary to achieve the skill and timing people claim it brings. It can be achieved without using animation lock.

    I fully support locks, limits and controls that are NOT based on the animation, because the animation itself is not the best definition of the time period for which you shouldn't be able to move.

    In the end, it doesn't matter whether you like animation lock or not- It's GONE. deal with it.

    That's basically what you've been saying for days though. No matter what anyone says, no matter how well anyone else explains their position regarding this topic, all you do is reply the same thing.

    All you do is repeat yourself despite what anybody else adds to the discussion. It's like talking to a wall.

    Animation locks are such bad game design, that they are present in the majority of games out there. It is a perfectly normal game mechanic. I think this is the first time I've ever seen people complaining about this now that I think of it.

    I'm gonna ask again, since I didn't get a reply the last time: could you name me a few good examples of games without any sort of animation locks whatsoever? Like, none at all?

    People claim Dark Souls as an animation lock game but I'd say they are miss defining or cant play well, the game has many animations that can be ejected or canceled early - therefore the game isnt animation locked.

    Which is What Alhan. is talking about, where the animations are not the dependent of where things are locked - but the logic is the dependent of where things are locked.

    When, or at least when I, discuss animation lock in terms of this forum (FFXIV) and our past history, animation lock is locking till animation completion. Animation lock in these terms is horrible design.

    You're absolutely right. Talking to you IS like talking to a wall. Have no fear, talk to you I will no longer! Instead, I'll talk to people who may better understand my position. I find it amusing though, that your only reubttal to my argument is I"m repeating myself. You don't seem to be very interested in actually discussing the topic, so you just criticize me for my participation in it.

    Fortunately, I've been able to agree with, and disagree with, other people in a reasonably intelligent discussion.

    Many games lock part of an attack or action based on the developer's judgement about when you should or shouldn't be able to move. These games give reasonable freedom while also preventing illogical/physically impossible motions. There is a big difference between games like what I'm describing, and those with full fledged animation lock where the entire animation is always locked, regardless of how much sense it makes.

    That what he does in every thread. He repeats the same argument, think he is right and everybody else is just talking nonsense and ignore everybody else even if they have reasonable arguments.

    Anyone ever tell you that you're rude? You don't see me going around to wherever you post telling people how terrible you are.

    I haven't done anything of the sort in any case. In fact, I've blatantly made clear where I feel I've been wrong or "lost" or whatever you want to call it. When I repeat things, it is generally because people are attacking me instead of addressing the discussion. I love it when the only thing you can say is "you're repeating yourself, shut up and go away." If you actually responded to the discussion, I wouldn't have to repeat myself. I do not ignore people with reasonable arguments. Please make a reasonable argument, and I will be all ears.

    Proof that you didn't even bother with my posts. I did stop trying to explain my position in this thread a long while ago because discussions with people like you never go anywhere. They're an endless loop.

    Hence why I've said many times that the "lock" should remain for certain actions, not all. An animation lock on, say, a mage waving their hand to cast a spell, is pretty stupid, but removing it from everything is also stupid. We have animations during which moving freely would make no sense, such as Spirits Within, Goring Blade, Doom Spike, Ring of Talons, Steel Cyclone and pretty much every PGL/MNK WS. It is for those that I've said the lock should remain, but it seems you've ignored all I've said to this point. O_o

    One more time for the love of god. The animation lock people had complaints about was not the one during animations, it was the one that locked you down for 2 secs after you cast a spell or did any action hence why using a buff like Keen flurry vs coincounter could have been fatal.

    Duh? Unless someone succeeds in convincing me, of course I'm not going to agree with something else. That doesn't mean I'm not reading their posts, analyzing their opinion, and deciding for myself if it has merit or not.

    Then our views are not as far apart as you might think.

    I don't simply want to see movement locking added and removed from this or that- I want the timing and duration of the lock itself to be assigned based on the moments during the action where being able to change or break the motion would be a physical unlikelyhood- Not simply turn the lock on or off based on the specific action.

    e.g. you wind up your weapon for a special attack. during this breif moment before you actually strike the enemy, you can still move and cancel the attack (or if not cancel, reposition). Once the attack has been delivered, it is reasonable to be able to move before animation comes to a complete stop. In other words, the lock is arbitrarily designed, rather than simply tied directly to the animation. That is OK with me- It is only unacceptable to have all actions freeze you from the first frame of the animation to the last.

    To try to put it more simply. "Animation lock" IS bad. Methods of locking that are NOT directly based on the animation are better.
