Hmmm lol even intense MOBA DotA has animation lock.

Why were we able to activate skills while animation locked if it was our "global cooldown?"Also, what you had failed to see in both systems is that THEY ARE THE SAME. Animation lock WAS the global cool down. When you cast a spell in 1.0 you had a certain amount of down time where you couldn't spam the next spell. The current version does the same thing, the only difference is, you can move around while doing it. (At least when you're a melee)
Oh right, because they weren't the same thing at all!
I meant the "sacrificing anything aesthetic in favor of 'good gameplay'" part of your last post. If the gameplay is smooth but the game ends up looking like generic trash, it'll get boring in no time for me and surely many others. You know, like the world's greatest MMO of all time. The one I couldn't bear for more than one day.No animation lock doesn't instantly mean good gameplay. But animation lock certainly doesn't improve gameplay.
In real life you don't have to wait for your "naimations' to finish- One is capable of interrupting one's physical motions, or at least bringing them to a stop quickly if the need arises. Animation lock is an arbitrary 'sorry, you can't do this until i finish waving my arms around'. It's almost like your character is disobeying you.
This. It is a way to punish you if you time your skills wrong, too. You have to commit to your actions, and deal with the consequences of them, not just mindlessly spam your stuff whenever it's ready to use.

I never been against the animation lock, for me they just had to reduce it a bit, and with less lag it would have been ok. It was for me part of the gameplay to know when to cast or TP move. (Like kind of every other mmos).
But they decided to remove it so, i'll trust SE and deal with it, it's not like it's a major change of the game anyway. (I just want the combo positionning back but it's another story)![]()
It crippled my gaming experience, glad it's gone.
Oh, I understand. I'm just telling you that animation lock doesn't help make a bad game good, or a good game better. It is a negative attribute in all situations.I meant the "sacrificing anything aesthetic in favor of 'good gameplay'" part of your last post. NOT this. in DOTA the animation lock is an engine limitation. It's not there intentionally for aesthetics. In dota, everyone plays in the same arena every game every time (and other mobas dont offer that much more variety either)- Nobody gives a rats behind about aesthetics in it.Hmmm lol even intense MOBA DotA has animation lock.

^^This.Animation lock is gone. Deal with it. Also, on the "sliding around not looking natural" part, the developers have said on a couple of occasions that they don't like it either. So, stop whining and wait for them to finish their animations and make them look more natural.
Face it, nobody really wants animation lock. It's stupid, well, at least the majority of people who've dealt with it think it's stupid. Including the developers. So it's outta here. Gone. Done. Over. Animation lock just got This is Sparta'd. And I couldn't be happier!
In fighting games you cannot move while kicking/punching/whatever (usually). This is not a bad thing. Those games would be very bad if you were able to slide around while mashing roundhouse.
In Demon's/Dark Souls, you are locked into an animation if you decide to press an attack button. That is what makes the combat system actually work. Hell, in The Legend of Zelda you have to stop when you thrust your sword.
Having unrestrained movement while attacking works for some games but definitely not all games. It's fine if you don't want it in ARR, but saying it's ALWAYS bad to have attack animations lock you in place is dumb.
It was part of the game in 1.0, saying it crippled your gaming experience is like saying that having to complete lines to clear them cripples your Tetris gaming experience.
I don't understand why they didn't make it so that they let you move during animation and it would either just end it or keep going like it did in XI iirc. That way, people who want to see the animation could still see it but if you needed to move then you could.
That's how casting animations worked, but not weaponskills. I'd be all for that.
