    It was the animation lock, sorry to say. Maybe what you mean is that it wasn't solely to be blamed, but it certainly had a lot to do with it. Having that in combination with latency is a battle with the game's basic mechanics, and I'm sorry, but that's not fun nor a good time.

    Also, what you had failed to see in both systems is that THEY ARE THE SAME. Animation lock WAS the global cool down. When you cast a spell in 1.0 you had a certain amount of down time where you couldn't spam the next spell. The current version does the same thing, the only difference is, you can move around while doing it. (At least when you're a melee)

    Finally, the GCD is admittedly a second too long and was said to be tweaked for beta.

    Somebody slap this guy. Getting caught in Ifrit's cracks has nothing to do with how long I have to wait before I can next cast Thundara.

    And people need to be careful about breaching the NDA on the alpha in here if they have experience from playing it.

    I'm not going to slap him ONLY because animation lock is bad bad bad and I can't support anyone not supporting it. What he said IS stupid, but animation lock is still bad.

    Why were we able to activate skills while animation locked if it was our "global cooldown?"

    Oh right, because they weren't the same thing at all!

    That wasn't activating the skill immediately. That was queuing a skill. After you initiated the skill, the one qued took a few seconds for it to actually go off. Thus, a global cool down, but it had a more limited approach since when you performed these skills in succession you were planted in the same spot til you were finished.

    Hope that clears up a few things. I didn't think I had to explain how the game functioned to anyone who had played it for two years, but it looks like I did. You had your global cool down the entire time and the debate more comes down to if you:

    A) Want unlimited movement while in battle with visual clues in the UI on when the next action can be activated.

    or

    B) Limit your movement in battle and have animation lock in place of the visual global cool down on your skill bar.

    This is preference. Some people like battles at a slower pace and some do not. FFXIV:ARR is being developed to be a little faster than legacy version. If you do not prefer this system it's either relearn how to battle with this new system or lay down your sword. Nothing is being done to revert it.

    There's also the problem with GCD that there is no real thought behind your actions for the exception of what combos with what. It makes the gameplay really dull, trust me.

    Animation lock itself didn't bug me, it was the lag on top of the animation lock that drove me mad.

    If I perform an action to cancel casting a spell and gtfo in my frame of reference, I want it to work.
    I don't want to be told:
    "Sorry, but because the server thinks you have already casted that spell, we're going to stop you being able to run away now and make you do the animation, even though the server thinks it was done before you wanted to gtfo. This will make it so you can't gtfo, even though the server thinks you should be able to. Sucks to be you."

    The server needs to be able to make up it's mind: animation lock OR terrible lag. I can let them get away with just one.

    Animation lock is no longer a threat to your movement, they could have kept 1.0's GCD by skill animation, kept the nice 1.0 skills without the risk of lock and went from there tweaking and balancing each class for PvE/PvP. i believe there was no reason other than to be different.

    i know people praise the guy but i really believe Yoshi is obsessed with getting rid of anything that tanaka had a hand in.

    I would prefer GCD and the animation to go along with it. I don't like to be locked out of action when playing but ideally animation to continue while moving rather than sliding around.
