Well...I can't seem to find a date on when IPS was "new" but just because PLS is newer does not make IPS old >_> lol.
As I said I haven't read much about IPS(Now PLS as well) so...no..I meant IPS. >_>

    Edit:
Found a good wiki link with dates for types of IPS. So while IPS itself is old new types appear to have been created since. The Super PLS is interesting as well...Though I was not able to find much on it through Wiki.

I suppose it would most likely be AH-IPS I might have understood as "new".

Well the Asus named by the person you quoted is PLS. That was really the only reason I mentioned it. PLS is newer, seems to be a bit cheaper than IPS and almost as good in some ways.

I'd say get a good, high-res screen and lock the framerate to 60. If you have a GPU that can keep up, then 120hz would make little sense.

I'm not thinking about any upgrade for another year or so, but if I was, I would still wait for new Maxwell from Nvidia and Haswell from Intel.

Just think about it, performance gains in both GPU and CPU market were minimal in the last 2-3 years. All they achieved is taking manufucture process to as small as possible (that's 22nm as of today), this will be 14nm for Haswell if everything go as they plan.

So, we have better energy consumption, which give us better cooling and OC capabilities, but nothing more aside that.
I just hope that performance gains will be as high as they say. Would it be 10x faster for Maxwell comparing to todays Kepler ? I don't think so, but it could get pretty close to that.

And going back to topic, IMHO 120Hz is the best choice for any gamer, BUT you need a beast to generate enough frames for this 120Hz to make any sense. And the most important thing to remember, if you buy that kind of hardware, your PC will age at much faster pace than if you had normal 60hz monitor.
Why ? Becose today you may have good rig, but in 1 year that rig will toast to generate enough framerates for that 120Hz. Well, it still will be ok for normal 60Hz.

PS. Sorry for not taking AMD/ATI (which is also AMD ? ...) into comparison, but most of the times I always had Intel/NVidia rigs, so I'm basing on those.

120hertz Monitors are overkill, most if not all of your source material like games and movies are still 24/6o hertz. not to mention TN panels are, well....still TN panels.

My advice get a nice IPS panel or 2, they'll give you that extra smoothness and make everthing look beautiful to boot.

I don't like the way 120 Hz looks.

Only CRT monitors can do it well in my opinion.

Yeah, it's similar, but not quite the same thing. In theory it's supposed to exceed IPS in a few places, but the jury is still out on that one.

Save for it. By June or July you might just have enough to get yourself one. You are probably Legacy so just play with what you have till then during Beta.

I'm thinking of getting a 2560x1440 in the near future and I would love to make sure that ff14 will support that res. Any news or thoughts about this?
