I'll be grinding somewhere even if it gives me lower exp. Trash quests can burn.

One of the main points I was trying to get across is each starting city has a series of low level quests to get you out into the world, you do those, clear them, and then move out to the camps. Now, this is all hypothetical since no one has played the live version yet, but there are only three starting cities, so three starting points. There are eight classes so where would the other five starting points be? I see a lot of posts with "Mobs still give exp" and you're right they do but it's not what the games progression is based on anymore. I hate to play the WoW card but, imagine trying to level from 1-90 just off killing mobs, I think that's how ARR is going to work. Maybe I'm just over thinking it, and I know SE's not going to release a game that doesn't have enough quests to get you to 50 on all classes but it's still something to think about.

I really hope there are not too many trash quests. I liked how a majority of side quests in XI had a lot to do with the main story they were implemented with. I look forward to tons of lore that expand and elaborate on much of the main story, but not "go kill 12 of these because I said so" for minimal rewards.

People will skip dialogue regardless of how good it is. I still remember the interesting explanations and dialogue WoW's quests to unlock druid forms had (brief history, explanations of why druids are able to take on the animal forms, etc), and people STILL decided to skip the dialogue. It's less about the quality of the text and more about how patient your average person is.

The person that cares about the lore and is curious will read the quest. The guy that just wants to rush through the content as fast as possible will click on the accept quest button and move on. You're pointing the finger at the wrong thing, as always.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

If you like leveling with quests only you might as well go play Skyrim. That game has endless meaningless quests that just make you run around and before you know it you have no clue why you are actually doing them.

It's also more than likely that half the people playing wanted to get to max level to do endgame which does require a party.
grouping to level isn't a thing of the past, fact if ffxiv didn't get first made with a broken engine it's probably what we would have right now. how is party leveling a thing of the past, it's just that every mmo is copying the same failing formula and ffxiv at least had the 8man party grinding at the beginning then took it away. they will soon see the same fate as the other mmo's for it. i'll say this with confidence, there will never be a successful mmo till they get back to party play everything. all you solo rejects in mmo's should get a new hobby like knitting. ..thing of the past, mmo's will soon be a thing of the past cause we can solo shit without paying 14bucks a month elsewhere.

They are not doing away with the 8 man party play and it will still be the premium way to level besides Pling. The quests and all that other stuff will be there for when you can't find a party fast enough and you decide that it migh be better to make a little progress soloing if there are no leveling party shouts going on. I hope by now people realize that f2p is actually Pay 2 win and it can be way more expensive than paying a subscription.

I already knit... in my solo downtime >

I love soloing, but I also love grouping. If I only have like 1hr to play I don't want to waste 45min seeking a party when I could spend the whole 60mins knocking out quests or leves.

The beautiful thing about ARR is that it's not just catering to soloers, there's many different ways to get xp.

I loved FFXI's party focus but it was awful when I only had like 1hour here and there to kill and I wanted to make progress on my character with a very limited timeframe. It would be extremely rude to join a party after 30mins of seeking then suddenly have to go 30mins later.
That to me is a thing of the past; being forced to only make progression when you have 3+ hours to kill should be a thing of the past no matter how you slice it; but ARR will cater to all - you can party, you can solo, you can dungeon grind with friends or solo leves etc. With this flexibility I forsee great things. If you abhor soloing you'll always have the chance to group up with friends, there will be people that detest soloing just as much as you, so you won't be alone.

So let's not trash a side of the game you wouldn't enjoy; you have the option to not solo (novel idea, isn't it?)
