    Climbing in ARR - Ladders, Rock/Ivy Walls

    Do you guys want to see climbing as a feature in ARR?

    Going up and down ladders, go up/down/across rock walls, ivy walls. Adding this feature gives more realistic feeling to the game. It also gives different perspective of the world, for example the world you see while you're on ground versus the world you see after you climb a huge rock wall. It also allows other types of dungeon/world play.

    There will be few problems for SE to figure out such as.
    1. Cost of building new animations.
      As YoshiP mentioned in the interviews that the cost to build new animations/motions are high and also there may be PS3 memory limitations to add in more animations.

    2. While climbing up/down/across how to handle if during battle? Wouldn't players try to use this feature as advantage to battles?
      It's possible the players can use this feature to avoid getting hit from mobs while in battle.

      My solution would be to not allow climbing while you are being targeted by a mob. If you're in a party, those party members that have the target will be the ones who can't climb. But say for others like WHM, if you cure or something you will be added in the hate list so it will also not allow them to climb during the duration of the fight. But at the same time I also feel like for example, archers, they should be able to shoot at mobs from the other side of the ledge, or from the top so restricting too much would cause problems imo.

    3. What if you press 'jump' button by mistake while climbing?
      Dev's could either lock the jump key while you're climbing OR if they are going to add damage values when you fall it may be good to leave it alone. But there will be people who will press jump by mistake so they need to come up with something for sure imo.

    4. What if you're on a mount?
      I would just say, they need to get off first. Being able to go up/down/across with mount would just increase more work for devs to create those animations.
    You will be able to climb where it's allowed marked with up/down ↑↓ and left/right ←→ . ⇑⇓

    Why I'm using Xenoblade as example? Xenoblade to me feels like offline version of MMORPG. Similar to FFXII but with other features.

    What do you guys feel about adding climbing in ARR?

    Sound like a great Idea to me. There isn't enough of this kind of stuff in MMOs. With the implementation of fall damage, I think jumping, getting hit by a range attack would more or less take care of themselves.

    This along side some light platforming could make for some very interesting Zones/Dungeons.

    None of those Maple Story Super Hard Platforming Quests Though.. Just Annoying..

    That would be cool, if the dev team don't want to do it then I don't mind at all. :3

    But it's a good idea nonetheless!

    There were ladders in FFXI (Phomiuna Aqueducts) you could climb but no climbing animations for characters there.

    I'd like to see actual climbing animations and ladders in this game. It makes a for a richer world overall and allows more variety in dungeon/zone design.

    It would be nice to be able to interact with the environment more, but if it's too costly to develop it wouldn't bother me either.
