Scared about ARR

Tera is a dying mmo ( it has failed in literally every market it has released in) therefor they are going f2p to try to save it. Battle system is probally one of the best in the genre... everything else in that game is horrible. Same as EQ2, SWToR, and many other mmos that were once p2p. The company that made Tera does not have the capital to fix the mess they made. That game has potential but needs so much more work... the investors are getting angry so no more money is flowing in.

If XIV 2.0 loses subs like version 1.0 does they will probably make it free to play and run it on a skeleton crew. Can't cancel a numbered title this soon. If this happens the game is pretty much over though.


Honestly I hope this game just shuts off if it fails. This f2p madness that is spreading needs to stop. The model is just bad for the player and is just so the devs can make a quick buck at players expense. The negatives of F2P (including the fact the game cost more to actually play... so not really free to play) far outweigh the negatives of p2p.

Perhaps you dont like complaints about the poor graphic qualities of the grass? Maybe, just the same, I'm tired of reading how scared people are about the low possibility of AAR going F2P?

If I simply said that this thread was RIDICULOUS would you have commented the same? Because that's essentially what I was trying to point out.

There's enough evidence to support both theories on whether or not it will be free to play in the future, but pointing out that the world has much bigger issues isn't a reasonable distraction. There will always be issues bigger than entertainment, but that doesn't mean we should just sit on our asses and let whatever happens happen. If we did, we'd still be stuck with 1.0. It should never be unreasonable to question a company on the direction they're taking, and fearing that they might become f2p is hardly out of the question considering the fact that most modern MMO'S have at least some form of f2p experience. And you can reflect that on the direction ARR is taking with its miming of such MMO'S. Yes it will have original content and world, but seriously, what theme park MMO doesn't?

Now, does this mean ARR is going to definitely be a f2p game? No. Both XI and DQ10 are living fine on a p2p model. However, you can't rule out the possibility that the restructuring might also require a change in payment plan down the road.

When all is said and done, FFXIV might be the most expensive game ever made, so F2P isn't an option for SE.

Not only that, but a change to F2P is often seen as beginning of the death of an MMO game, which is the LAST thing FFXIV needs considering the 1.0 reception.

If SE wants to make this game great, it should actually charge a bit more the average market subscription price.

People who pay more for the game will value it more, and the composition and attitudes of the FFXIV community will be generally better than any cheaper P2P or F2P game.

And that will result in a growing number of people who tell their friends to join, and less players that want to quit for something else.

PSO2 looks good since it's F2P but from what I see, it's probably an 'okay' type of MMO that everyone could play at least one or two weeks before everyone get bored.

I believe FFXI has been SE's biggest money maker in the whole Final Fantasy series. What with the monthly subscriptions.

They are trying to recreate that with FFXIV for the next generation to get a reliable monthly income with FFXIV subs.

I personally hope FFXIV stays pay-to-play so I can enjoy everything the game has to offer on just a basic monthly sub, without having to pay extra to access this and that.

If the game is good enough, and I believe it will be, loyal players will be happy to pay the subs to stay in the FFXIV world.

And in return I believe we will be repaid in frequent quality updates and content to keep us happy for many a year.

And I believe how XI is still P2P because it's the international game where you still could play with foreigners while you are living in the states. Like other MMOs you are stuck with NA-only servers (correct me if I am wrong) and when most of them quit while you still like the game but can't find anyone to play with, you would say fuck this and you quit too. That's how companies decided to make it F2P.

To me if XIV stays international then it would stay P2P forever though.

I've yet to see a player base in any of the other games I've played - most are F2P now - as mature as Karnak + Excalibur (especially Karnak, but Excalibur was good too). Maybe it has nothing to do with the type of people F2P attracts and its just that FF peeps are a special kind of cool :P Maybe not though... I would hate to see the fine community of Excalibur be destroyed by the riffraff that would possibly come through the F2P floodgates ><
