Any smart player will tell you that F2P is more expensive than P2P.
Go look on GW2... Currently 1/2 of the players agree that the company nerfs every single way of making money (and bans anyone who "exploits" any mistake the company makes), just because you can pay real money to convert it to game gold.
I hope FF14 never goes F2P
To be fair, that isn't exactly rocket science.Any smart player will tell you that F2P is more expensive than P2P.

Let's think about this logically for a second though:Tera was launched last year May 1st, they hit the f2p wall in less then 12months.
WoW has been p2p 2004 to 2013, no plan on f2p.
Rift has been p2p from launch till now, well over 2 years.
FFXI has been p2p for over 10 years.
FFXIV 1.0 had a longer p2p window than "Tera" January 1st to November 1st.
I can't say i am worried...
FFXIV 1.0 had a "longer P2P period" but it's population was also under 20k so they left it up for the dedicated fans, otherwise you forget that FFXIV was F2P for 2 years prior.
Tera is going F2P in Korea and Japan because quite frankly it failed. NA/EU is pending but it's pretty likely to be going F2P there as well.
XIV has the image of a failed MMORPG to try to erase, something that never happens in the MMO world because once your MMO is deemed a failure, it's pretty much dead in the water from there on out. So there's actually a lot for and against ARR in this light.
F2P and B2W is more expensive, that's why companies do it. They're not doing it for the players, they're doing it to make money.Any smart player will tell you that F2P is more expensive than P2P.

That's not necessarily true if you don't mind playing a game casually not having all the content available maybe log in 2-4 times a month then F2P is a better option.Any smart player will tell you that F2P is more expensive than P2P.

You are listening to a western audience crying for f2p and forgetting that the Japanese players probably outnumber us quite significantly and if they paid for 11 all this time they will probably pay for 14 just as easy
If this game did go f2p though I would micro transaction the hell out of it, gotta keep Yoshi-P coffee flowing
Its a lot of PS3 players who would want it f2p as well. If you look at any PS3 sites forums in the US especially you see the majority of people there won't even give FFXIV a chance because of the sub fee related to the game. Partly because every other online game on PS3 does not have a fee and they went the free route. If you post "will you try FFXIV when it come out" usually PS3 players will be like no not if there's a monthly fee, with is the deal breaker for them here. You are listening to a western audience crying for f2p and forgetting that the Japanese players probably outnumber us quite significantly and if they paid for 11 all this time they will probably pay for 14 just as easy

PS3 players are willing to support buy once then have free online but not buy the game then pay a monthly fee. Not sure if FFXIV will do that well on PS3 here. Not sure how SE would market this game on PS3 outside Japan. Its a lot more common in Japan for games to have a service fee.
TERA goes f2p cuz they're losing customers
Main reason is the game lack of end-game content, max lvl ppl got nothing to do beside looping boring dungeons, abusing the low lvl in the pvp battleground, go crazy on world chat. i know cuz that's what i did over past couple months and i saw many ppl left becuz of that, it's getting bored at the end. In general, you don't have a goal you want to achieve in the game.
Other mmos are competitors to FFXIV:ARR, but so does FFXIV:ARR itself would be a strong competitor to other upcoming mmos, i dun really worry much about it.
