When FFXI will be Free to Play then you'll have a good reason to worry.

You shouldn't fear it. In the last years many MMOs have been forced to change their market plan to avoid bankrupt. There 2 main reasons to change from P2P to F2P:Just read that Tera is going free to play in the US and EU, and people are commenting that they give ARR from 4 to 8 months after release to follow the same route as all the other MMO's the last years...
I fear for the mindset of the population, not about the quality of the game, that may force it's demise...
1) An old game that is losing players, and want to keep them up as long as possible.
2) A failed game.
This is the most valuable proof about what I'm saying. I don't want to talk about P2P vs F2P, but if players pay a monthly fee and the game is full of people, there won't any reasons to change and go F2P.
I get the sense that your implying FFXI would go F2P before FFXIV ever would.. I would say although likely, thats not exactly true. FFXIV could be a complete piece of garbage that SE basically abandons (as well as its player base) and then puts all their resources back into FFXI... A game that is soon to get another expansion and is still gaining brand new subs (and old returning subs) every day.
However, I also think that no FF mmo, unless built this way from the get go (But why??)... would EVER be reduced to F2P.

This.
FFXI is still subscription based because it is a cut above almost every other MMO currently out. People whine and complain, but it's still a really good MMO for being 10 years old.
Enter FFXIV. Made by the same company, with a visionary producer. There is no way this game is going to go free to play either, when SE can still rake in subscriptions on their 10 year old MMO. Not to mention XIV needs to recoup its original losses.
XIV is going to be like XI in that it's going to be a cut above against other MMOs. I sincerely believe this is the case.
