Rift has been p2p from launch till now, well over 2 years.
FFXI has been p2p for over 10 years.
FFXIV 1.0 had a longer p2p window than "Tera" January 1st to November 1st.

I can't say i am worried...
Let's think about this logically for a second though:

FFXIV 1.0 had a "longer P2P period" but it's population was also under 20k so they left it up for the dedicated fans, otherwise you forget that FFXIV was F2P for 2 years prior.

Tera is going F2P in Korea and Japan because quite frankly it failed. NA/EU is pending but it's pretty likely to be going F2P there as well.

XIV has the image of a failed MMORPG to try to erase, something that never happens in the MMO world because once your MMO is deemed a failure, it's pretty much dead in the water from there on out. So there's actually a lot for and against ARR in this light.

Go look on GW2... Currently 1/2 of the players agree that the company nerfs every single way of making money (and bans anyone who "exploits" any mistake the company makes), just because you can pay real money to convert it to game gold.
I hope FF14 never goes F2P
F2P and B2W is more expensive, that's why companies do it. They're not doing it for the players, they're doing it to make money.
