2.0 in Windows 8

If I had a touchscreen or tablet, I'd probably install w8. Since I do not, the interface is a hindrance to my workflow for things I use my pc for other than gaming. The couple of seconds that the faster startup time gets me, is of practically no benefit. A few more frames per second buys me nothing when I'm doing non-gaming related tasks. IMO, M$ have shot themselves in the foot yet again with this one.

After using 8 for a pretty long time, I could assure you, having a touch screen on a desktop would actually make it really uncomfortable. The start screen is easy to use with a mouse. It's pretty much the same as clicking direct links on your desktop, but without the clutter. AND the start screen is in no way slower than the old start menu, so I can't see how it is a hindrance at all. I'd love to know how, though, since I can't see it myself.

There won't be any significant issues, trust me.

You'll have no problem running it on Windows 7 and 8 should you wish to upgrade or switch to either.

For me the hindrance is refreshing the entire screen to show the start screen, this feels disorienting. To get around this I pin all my apps to the desktop taskbar. I would much rather have the tiles appear over the desktop when activating the start screen.

I'd have to agree on this one. It would look and feel so much nicer.

You know, they tried this once (sort of), it was called active desktop and it let you display web pages and peices of web pages directly on your desktop. It wasn't really a bad idea but I think it was cut because of security issues?

this is a very good vid that shows how to use win8 without a touch screen..... i've been using it to learn more about win8 for my tablet.... figured i put it up for people that haven't really messed with 8 yet just so they can see how it works when you know what your doing LOL

and i still say i like winxp/7 but i can see how win8 can be very appealing once you know all the shortcuts and spend the time to organize everything

It looks interesting to say the least, as long as they don't make it a tablet interface. Sorry, but Windows 8 is the worst thing I ever played with since Windows ME. Vista as slow and painful as it was, at least it was bearable to look at.

I will wait for Windows 9 when Microsoft realizes that people don't want tablet interfaces on their PC.
