I know in FFXIV 1.0 Nvidia and Intel were SE's partners. Notice that AMD CPUs are not even listed at all. I seriously doubt SE didn't much testing with AMD GPUs yet. SE probably needs to figure out the equivalent AMD GPU to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti for their new engine.

Looks like these requirements were thrown together quickly so I'm positive they will change.

Even after what I said I would imagine they would have at least some test boxed running AMD, I would like clarification on this, it would help any AMD users with giving feedback during the beta test.

I'm pretty sure the only reason they went with the 5xx series is branding. I was running FFXIV 1.0 with a GTS 250 without any problems and upped to a GTX 460 1 gig with almost no difference that I could tell. The card I'm currently running can be had for around 120 bucks now, so things ain't that bad. At least they aren't recommending an i7 this time. That was ludicrous.

I think figuring out the specific video card that meets the recommended requirements is the least of SE's priorities right now.

Not really because people who want to play on max settings with no lag need this information, seeing a top of the range card under recommended (and I mean absolutely top of the range) could put people off, especially people who swear by AMD.

For beta I don't think so. These are rough beta requirements, not official release requirements.

If you want to go back to Alpha test they didn't even list any AMD GPUs:

This thread is seriously making a big deal out of nothing. It would be serious if this was official release requirements.

I know this, I'm just saying if these do turn out to be the release requirements, it could turn people off, as people have already stated the Radeon HD 7979 and GTX 5xx series are lightyears apart in performance, whilst yes it could be that they have no AMD test box so have that there to get feedback, but with a company as large as SE it seems unlikely this is the case.

SE might want to reference the following:Tom's Hardware graphics cards hierarchy chart

    GTX5xx covers ALOT of ground.

Actually, this should be the first thing they are thinking about in the very first stages of developement, as performance issues with the old engine is the reason for the overhaul. You don't just program a game and say at the end, hey, now lets see what our game will require to run, or it could end up spelling performance disasters that came to be known as 1.0.

last I checked, and it's been awhile, but ATi/AMD was the largest manufacturor of graphics card chipsets. A company may optimize more towards one brand or the other, but just testing on one platform would be folly and would cost SE alot of revenue off of game sales. Usually a company wont just test for both companies, but go down the line testing most graphics cards made within the last 4-5 years or so, and SE would have had a target in the very beginning on what hardware they would be catering to, both low and high end.

Also, not specifying which 5xx series card would be required for the recommended settings might just stir some of those 520 owners to think they have a chance of playing with near max settings, which just by looking at the videos, can tell would not be possible. I can see, however, not listing an AMD cpu for recommended as they are just so far behind I5/7 at this time, but I believe those with recent quad core AMD cpus will stand a chance of having enough power under the hood, should this game be highly optimized for multi-core CPUs.

And as glad as I am to hear that the alpha version was running well as far down as with a radeon 4200, you guys shouldn't be mentioning this info until the NDAs are lifted to avoid service suspensions or worse.
