looks like orange crystal, maybe aether?
Or going to find his helm and axe since he dropped both during the fight...just sayingThat doesn't explain why the party was happy to see it. It's like, he sees it and goes through 3 emotions: shocked at first, then happy because he smiles, and finally he has an almost "determined" look on his face. I dunno if I would be happy to see the spot where Dalamud/Bahamut went apenuts.
He could be shocked that what was once Mor Dhona is now green instead of that crystalline landscape it once had, and shows signs on healing, so he's happy about that but then he turned into Mr. Determined-man and heads off in that general direction. What's he's determined about is anybody's guess. Maybe they headed that way to look for survivors (5 years later I know), or maybe they're just curious and wanna head back there to see if the Garleans are still around.

I kinda think it's where Bahamut's megaflare hit, and the planet broke open there and spewed that stuff out. Maybe it has to do with why Bahamut's rampage stopped.
Erozea vomits on Bahamut, Bahamut runs away to labryinth tail between his legs.. XD
It looks like the drained crystals from the ending events in 1.0 - that must make one epic teleport pad.. "Teleports all of uldah".. /smug
Although this doesn't answer the question 'what' it is necessarily wasn't there a Dev/interview response about players having to do a quest line in discover the origin of these structures popping up over Eorzea?
I thought it was referenced again in the original roadmap- I also recall seeing a forum post about 2 weeks before the game's final save (around beginning/mid October 2012) of a player asking if the dev's had forgotten about this but never received a response.
I'm trying to find the source where I remember seeing this response as well as the player's thread asking about it- I thought it was in a German or French interview back when Yoshida first started passing out 2.0 information to the community sites around the globe.
I'll see if I can dig a bit more-
EDIT:
Found the roadmap reference- still looking for the possible interview reference and the original forum that had the discussion in it I know the general direction of the forum post was asking the dev's why we didn't get this in 1.0- and if we /did/ what was it supposed to be since this geological structure never appeared. But I'm unsure if the other thread had any productive information regarding 'what' this is.

It is a fart from inside the world.
It's on a cliff or hill.. Maybe it's Louisoix related?
Thinking he might be happy just to see that the world survived?
