We were linked via SE ID(XI and XIV) long before POL XI accounts transferred over to the SE member site that handles our XIV accounts. So this all started back before XIV even came out

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~
Yes I know, I played XI back then and so did my partner. It didn't even pass our minds to do anything but create our own accounts though, so that's what I don't understand.

I completely agree. The details are fuzzy to me but yes, I remember being urged to link accounts as well with the promise of some tangible benefit. I went ahead and did so for FFXI and FFXIV - they are both on the same account.
(EDIT: Ok now I realize why I did this - to get the useless hermes sandals or whatever that ridiculously stupid item was given to have both FFXI and FFXIV active at once)
Then I went to add my buddy pass. And I paused. After I thought it through I realized I would be completely screwing myself over to have two FFXIV accounts on the same ID. Yes it would only be one security token to keep track of and one payment, but it seemed to be a horrific nightmare otherwise (for all the reasons you listed).
So in the end I created a whole separate SE ID for my buddy pass and I am immensely happy I did. They are both Legacy which means I will have two accounts to use in beta![]()
I'm really sorry you're in this mess...........

I'm really sorry you're in this mess...........Im not terribly upset about it ( at least when there's no alpha/beta tests going out or relic winning contests) It's just my hope to have the matter discussed by our lovely XIV team <3

Me and my husband had one token and at the time there was no talk about the loss of ability's to link to the same SE ID when they were promoting the idea. Hind sights 50/50, im glad that you guys didn't link your account but I feel we are derailing off the post I originally intended. This is just a matter of trying to get out the idea of allowing shared accounts by a SE ID for people in my situation (which I have read of in posts here a long time ago, and through various fan based sites also suffer from) to enjoy the benefits any other account paying has, rather then having to share them as we have in XI. As by way of surveys and beta applications I am seeing a continuance of the issues me and my partner faced in xi, I hope to bring it up so that it may be looked at differently in FFXIV then it was in XI when the idea came out originally.

I think really all that needs to be done is apply contest and what not to XIV accounts, not the SE account itself. AKA, per reg code account. Although they are linked to the same SE ID, they are still separate accounts based on the reg key inside their database. The Code is just linked to your SE ID. So it seems like they should be able to easily apply game contests (i.e. mog bonanza in xi) and what not per reg code, and not per se id.
It'd just be a lot of work I'd assume. More so for FFXI probably since it's not in the development stage still. It's system is already in place. Hard to say really though.

Yes! such a simple easy solution that would be lovely to fans such as myself stuck in this situationI think really all that needs to be done is apply contest and what not to XIV accounts, not the SE account itself. Actually I agree it makes sense... at least for the forum and beta application (that automatically goes to your service account not the way they email you a code)... It wouldn't however work for surveys since it could lead to multiple answers... but that's about it...I think really all that needs to be done is apply contest and what not to XIV accounts, not the SE account itself. AKA, per reg code account. Although they are linked to the same SE ID, they are still separate accounts based on the reg key inside their database. The Code is just linked to your SE ID. It could lead to multiple answers from the same person on the survey, but upon login for the survey, say you select your XIV account, and not your spouse/mule/whatever, that survey information is hashed with your reg key, and se account. So, in all likely hood it would work for surveys, they'd just have to decide whether or not to accept both, or decline one (or more from the same acct) based on suspicion of whether it's just a mule or actually two people playing.
Having played with server software for Ragnarok Online before, it should be easy to tell whether two people are playing or if one is controlling two players. Even masters at using two characters at once will show signs of dual boxing (one char will stop using abilities for a small amount of time while an action is triggered on the other, etc). Just things like that. It's hard to use two computers and control two characters at the same exact time. I use to do this with my brothers char on XI when he wasn't home cause we'd duo to 20 then head to qufim.
Not to mention MAC Addresses. Yea, they can be spoofed, but I don't really see why someone would spoof their mac address for a survey or for a game contest.
I suppose a contest like mog bonanza where you can get items that usually take years in real life to obtain one of the items might be viable to do it for. I just think their are a couple of options they could look into for people that actually do share se accounts with their spouse, that were ill informed when SE accounts were made a while ago. They pretty much encouraged you to link ur POL account to a SE account just for extra security, without any real explanation of the service when it first rolled out, atleast from my memory. Cause it was all about the security token and the mog bag you get with the token.

Beta application can be done without any kind of account at all. My colleague registered from her work PC behind me with just her e-mail address and then completed a second on behalf of her partner.
Also Kyri, have you raised a ticket with S-E support? I've found them to be quite accommodating in the past. Can't help to try?
