Personally one of the largest issues that 2.0 faces is that most of the content will probably be pretty shallow if we go by the trends of content we are receiving today. As it stands most players of FFXIV seem to have a slogan when they open the game.
"Run and Done!"
Meaning many people log on just to do raids, and then promptly log off when they are finished, not because it's the only thing they want to do...it's pretty much the only thing you can do. Aside from leveling (Lol) there is very little content in the game that doesn't revolve around teleporting to a door somewhere and then running your dungeon ad-nasuem until you get your drop, or you call it a day.
I'm not jumping the gun and saying that 2.0 will have nothing to do outside of dungeons, but it wouldn't be alien to assume that it will be very sparse. This discussion will revolve around what I and you fine folks think would be great things to put in the game to give us more than dungeons to log in for.
Some noteable examples have grown in the community and have received developer attention, if your looking for a good example of what type of content I'm speaking of...
Dem ideas~
The list runs on, but it seems like the developers are either very silent, or unwilling to spend time to "Flesh the game out" as I'd like to call it. They seem very focused on little but battle, and dungeon related content and it will only get you so far. Dungeons are a means to a end, but what happens when you reach that end?
You have ran Darkhold for the umpteenth time and are sick of it, but you still want to play the game, socialize with your friends and have something fun to do while your at it.
I suggest that we compile things we think will help us stay in the game longer than just our raid times, give players some more meaning to their achievments and goals. Give players something to strive for without holding too much back, the best kind of stretch goals are vanity items. Something with little effect on game balance but also something you can set yourself aside and just have some fun with.
Off the top of my head a few ideas I conjured up just looking at recent news, the dye system has been confirmed and I thought.
"Man what a great idea if people didn't just have all the dye colours at their fingertips and some hues or palletes were unlocked while playing the game"
Tiered rewards for playing the game, doing everything the game has to offer. Your battles are often rewarded with gear to move to the next battle but what about a behemoth horn to mount on your wall or unlocking that Iconic Deep Purple Behemoth tone that's all the rage these days?
Feel like getting to know the world better? Exploration acheivements could unlock lore snippets in your bestiary or world index. Once you finish getting all the sand out of your boots exploring and murdering everything that moves in Thanalan you open your Bestiary to see detailed accounts of history of the land and lore on the monsters you are still wiping blood off your blade from?
Fancy yourself a master chef? Cook all the food the game has to offer and unlock furniture for your house, a fridge, a knife block, giant ____fish drying on a rack. Armorer perhaps? Get yourself a forge in the process of your apprenticeship and take it home to give you crafting support whenever you need it in a hurry!
What about you guys, can you think of any amazing ideas to help add depth to the game world outside of new dungeons and battle content? What do you think would help make the world feel more alive and worth loging in to each day even when your guild isn't raiding. Just to soak in the atmosphere and chat with friends?
