That's actually not completely Microsoft's fault there, it's the way the game is coded. The game very cpu dependant, and that was pre-abyssea.
I noticed on my old setup that ran the game at 1080p @ 29.4FPS (whatever windower's fps option shows at cap), once abyssea came out, those areas really spiked my old cpu hard.
Seeing that people use to have RRoD/heat issues just doing Besieged or Campaign battles on the 360, it's not all that suprising that your friend got a RRoD playing FFXI on his 360 now, seeing that abyssea is just about all anyone seems to do anymore.
On that note, the game plays much better on a PC... For the price of his few months old 360, he could of pretty much built a pc to play XI.
Actually, the game worked on Vista to begin with, even without the Vista POL update. People are just not computer literate enough to tinker with settings themselves, so they released a new version with updated manifests.
Yea, that's not really a valid reason... My PS3 and PC are both hooked up to my 50" Plasma...Ya'll wrong...
Let me answer the question.
Why bother with PS3?
So I can come downstairs on a Sunday morning in my pyjamas and lounge on my couch and play FFXIV from our 52' TV instead of sitting antisocially in the study infront of our PC
Thanks you SE for bringing our the PS3 version <3

There is a little Monkey in all of us....

It also supports the keyboard industry as you'll eventually be forced to use a keyboardYa'll wrong...

And as for the black screen in FFXI, that;s predominantly a data corruption on the HDD and since the PS2 doesnt have the proper correctional utilities for that (unlike the PS3) i guess if u mess up the HDD enough then yea the black screens could eventually make it unplayable.

lol she could try that gimmicky micro keyboard u can snap on the ps3 controller, sounds pretty dern inefficient to type on tho

Yoshi-P is smart. I'm sure they'll look into a way to port the game over to the PS4 once it's more widely used. XIV may have more detailed environments and characters than XI, but it still lacks the volume of content. I rather doubt they'd have an easy, let alone cost-effective, way to revamp XI. And that's a revamp, not a simple port. I'm sure putting ARR on the PS4 would be much easier than having to rebuild the whole game.

They actually looked into porting FFXI to the PS3 not too long ago, but apparently dropped it. Pretty safe to assume the primary reason is the really bad coding the PS3 needs to run a game well because of the split RAM (main reason ffxiv 1.0 wasn't PS3 capable; main reason Bethesda hit their roadblock on Skyrim DLC; main reason so many games are developed for Xbox360, ported to PC, then ported to PS3 and look and play inferiorly on the PS3 but PS3 exclusives are amazing)Yoshi-P is smart. It's probably easy to support with FFXIV running on a PC streaming to this controller.
Looks like NVIDIA trying to turn the PC into an expensive console.
With Tegra 4 built into this controller it's a handheld console on its own. This will directly compete with PS Vita, however it's not as portable since it's bigger.
I have to say this is pure genius of Nvidia using their tegra SoC this way. Nvidia back into console wars.
