I think people take things way too seriously when it comes to the part where you cannot reveal your status as a tester. This part is what everyone takes the most caution in, but is the least revealing bit of info about the testing process altogether.

NDAs have it set up in a way where they can cover their asses in all directions. Some parts are not treated as seriously as others. Revealing your status is lumped into one of these instances.

You guys are beautiful, and I don't know what I'd do without you; but as much as it reassures me that you guys think this question is dumb, I posted this thread for the purpose of getting an official answer so that I don't have to worry about it coming back to haunt me later. Its not a dumb question but i do really think you are over thinking it.. it would be silly to loose your chance to participate in the beta for telling someone you have legacy status when SE has already stated all legacy members are qualified so being kicked for prior knowledge is kinda bleh :P

Right, but if that's true are they even going to bother telling people to keep their beta access secret? Surely if it's okay for some of the people to do it, you might as well let everyone do it.

well in terms of keeping it a secret yea until phase 4 when NDA is lifted like on other websites other than the Beta forums. that said though at the start of phase 3 when others who applied such as non legacy members get in everyone who is on the forums would already know whos in the beta.

You still have to keep secret the fact you are participating in the alpha test. We will have to wait for beta test agreement to see if it still holds true for the beta. If you're legacy member doesn't mean you are participating in the beta test.

Below is details from agreement that shows you cannot say you're a tester. Once the beta test agreement gets released look for this.

Alpha Tester’s Confidentiality Obligations
“Confidential Information” shall mean (a) any and all information relating to or contained in the Products, Software, Documentation, or other materials supplied to Alpha Tester by Company in connection with the Alpha Testing, including, without limitation, information relating to the performance, conditions, capabilities, and contents of the Products and Software, methods of reporting and conducting, modification schedule, modification process and its progress in the Alpha Testing, AND RECIPIENT’S FEEDBACK, OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS, AND COMMENTS (POSITIVE AND/OR NEGATIVE) REGARDING THE PRODUCT AND THE SOFTWARE, (b) the existence and the terms of this Agreement, (c) the Square Enix ID and password used by Alpha Tester, or by any other Alpha Tester, (d) THE IDENTITY OF ALPHA TESTER AND THE FACT THAT ALPHA TESTER IS PARTICIPATING IN THE ALPHA TEST, and (e) any and all information relating to the future or proposed products, services, or business operations of Company. Confidential Information includes, without limitation, all such information disclosed to Alpha Tester prior to the execution of this Agreement. Alpha Tester acknowledges and agrees that the Confidential Information constitutes valuable trade secrets of Company and (subject to the other terms of this Section 2.6) agrees to keep Confidential all Confidential Information, and only use Confidential Information in connection with Alpha Tester’s participation in the Alpha Test.

Awkward moments when there is a lot of people claims they are in Alpha (and yes friends of mine) still didnt get ban, yes it stated in the NDA, but YoshiP technically revoke that when he mention is OK to reveal they're in Alpha. He press strongly saying only informations from Alpha build is forbidden to be leak out. That is all.
