Its amazing how limited and short sighted people are in terms of jobs and the future of XIV. If we can stop looking backwards at XI and be open to new and creative ways of bringing a fresh face to this game, it could turn out to really worthwhile.

Looking at Ninja from a new perspective:

    Solo play.

The ninja, using their high evasion and shadowy skills, preys upon the creatures of Eorzea. Singling out solo targets, ninjas rely on a number of tools to defeat their foes. Deadly two-handed attacks, debilitating Ninjutsu magic, and various projectile weapons are all of part of their arsenal. And always by their side, aiding them in battle, is their spirit animal!

These spirit animals could be quested for (think wolf, anole, coerul, etc.) and then given a particular parameter that fits the players style (tank, dd, support). To balance this in terms of party play (because we know people will), the spirit animal can only be summoned as a 5 minute ability that does a powerful attack. When solo, the spirit animal is summoned until defeated with a 2 minute cooldown after death.

Having the flexibility to have both party and solo play that fits within the background of the Ninja class makes for a fun and unique experience. As for the prerequisite job, I imagine Thief would be a fit, with a number of status effect moves and evasion/sneak attack related skills.

    Thoughts?

-shrugs- Thats exactly what I said but with the addition of projectiles use, which is actually nice, but the whole spirit animal... I don't see the need for it. We will have summoner, and probably a few other pet classes come in later on (Beastmaster, Puppetmaster, etc) later down the line.

What they could do is change their Shadow Clone jutsu from a tanking skill to creating a shadow of themselves that can be used to help with additional DPS. Then when the skills duration has completed, the shadow clone simply dissipates. The shadow clone should also not be able to attain "hate" else well people will begin to use it for tanking.

Anything's fine as long as it's fun to play. Personally, I don't think the pet has to be a core element of the Ninja class. (In a different version of the armory system [disclaimer]) I'd love to be able to take a cross between Ninja and Thaumaturge, for instance, to summon shades of myself, between Ninja and Beastmaster for pets, Conjurer and Ninja for aspect-based effects, spirit animals, and improved elemental usage, Arcanist and Ninja for improved magic control and situationally-created familiars. A Ninja-Lancer could be doing amazing shadowy charges, mixing distracting threat-burst with high offensively-based evasion. A Ninja-Gladiator could be one hell of a tenacious tooth-and-nail defender. Etc, etc.

I like it when a class is considered that class not by its role, but every other unique and especially fun feature of the class. I'd like for Ninjas to be able to tank, and DD, and use pets. But, I'd expect much of that will come with cross-classing.

Didn't someone suggest we're getting a pet system? I don't think it'll be necessary to make NIN a pet job if you can just happen to be a Ninja that also has a pet.

Actually I was sort of hoping they might add a pet aspect to all jobs. PGL using mammets, CNJ using elementals, MRD using beasts, maybe GLA could use guard dogs (lol), ARC > Squirrels (check FFV), LNC > Wyverns, THM.... skeletons? Get a little necromancy going?

But I'm sure none of the above will come to pass exactly as I wrote it. We might see PUP and BST at some point, and I wont' be shocked if there's a Drake pet.

The pest system is all speculation based on the pics of baby monsters. SE has said nothing about it yet as far as I know.

I've mentioned the Ninja+Dog idea in the past, but only to spite and counter the people that were begging for dragoon to be shackled--I mean, given a wyvern like they were in FFXI.

I like the idea being a throwback to FFVI, provided there's synergy between the NIN and their dog as well as combination attacks. Not that dissimilar to how I envision beastmaster working if it were to be put in this game.

Something I could suggest for NIN weapon skills is that the Dog being alive adds a damage bonus, to encourage the NIN and the healers in the group to help keep the Dog alive. Maybe NIN has Blade: Retsu, which on its own could be treated as a two-hit weapon skill, but with the dog active Retsu becomes a 3-hit weapon skill (two from the NIN, one from the dog). So that the NIN can use their attacks if the dog is dead/inactive, but you are rewarded for keeping your loyal hound alive.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

The pest system has already been implemented.
