Could be interesting. You could have the dog tank/do the majority of the consistent damage with the ninja using debilitating throwing weapons/ninjutsu and only coming into melee range for a short burst of damage.
And just to throw it in there - you do know that Yoshi has said he'd like to include jobs like Ninja and Samurai already, but it wont be something to expect at launch, or probably even for the first year or so of ARR. When they go with those jobs, he'll want the setting for it to be appropriate, so he'll need/want an asian themed area for us to acquire it from.

I wouldnt neccicarily have to be a pet class. Shadow's dog from FFVI only occasionally helped him, other than that it was all Shadow. It wouldnt be so bad for FFXIV's ninja to have an occasional helper as well. Maybe something other than a dog too.
I think thats a great idea. The dog would be a minor DD, and support through skills.
For instance you can have the dog:
"tackle" and stun the target.
"Growl" and have a short duration paralyze
"howl" and give an attack bonus
"bark" to act as a provoke.
and "retrieve" to be used as a pulling tool.
Ninja can still use ninjitsu magic and dual wield.
I think that it's a perfect addition to make the job new for a new FF game.
when i first read through this thread i immediately thought of Yojimbo from 10. Your guys suggestion and examples are neat & cool also putting a spin on the classic ninja or typical one most ppl want (aka 11). Im all for new ideas and new ways to design classes/jobs to make 14 unique i rather have something new or at least a traditional class/job with a neat spin on it.
I hope Yoshi-p will add musketeer with its corresponding job before adding any other new classes & jobs(obviously after acn and smn) since it already has a theme, story, guild etc behind it. Something like samurai, ninja, blue mage, dark knight, etc i hope they will add those eventually but give them each their own theme, setting, city, etc etc to make them unique not just add a guild to one of the 3 cities and little story line behind it because they are popular demand. These new and possible upcoming classes/jobs need to be done right and and given much attention from SE when designing them and implementing them.
Why?I wouldn't be surprised if this happens as how retro/old school Yoshi-P seems to be ....its hilarious how some people keep talking like FFXI invented the jobs
i agree with this statement. People want new classes/jobs to be added in the game from pretty much or exactly a carbon copy of what it was in XI, if not then it goes against all rules and will not be tolerated. These ppl want an experience that's unique, exclusive, individual from anything else but want to use the same or almost the same exact stuff from XI. they complain or turn down any different suggestion/ideas of how a class or job should be if its not like XI and yet they point out that the game classes/jobs are not unique, exclusive,etc. and have problems with the class/job.
These ppl want classes/jobs to be this & that, do this or that, be a hybrid, have these abilities only, etc but contradict themselves saying: if its not like this then it will be a bust or if it doesn't have this ability or abilities then its trash, or if it doesn't play exactly like this then its a no go, if it can't do multiple things then its a bad job. They want these jobs to play different from XI but use or want to use the same stuff from XI and when someone tries to say anything different they get bombed or just outright get completely ignored for it.
Thinking back to when is was about 9th or 10th grade in science class i vaguely remember seeing a picture of Albert einstein when he said or was one of his quotes about: doing the same process or steps over and over but expecting different results is the definition of being insane. which can apply here when ppl want to do/use the same set up & principles of XI for XIV for its jobs and how they should be but expect something different for FFXIV is just insane! "Just like how ppl want ninja from XI for XIV but then say it shouldn't tank, and only do this or that and not this anymore, however if something else would be changed or added it will not work and will be bad idea to have it, just like this idea with the dog/pet its a neat and cool spin on ninja to set 14 version on ninja aside from XI but still have some old traditions.
Until ppl stop being short sighted & closed minded and become open minded and think outside the box is when we will have the experience we are looking for. Yes we need to have classes/jobs that are traditional but have a new neat and cool spin on them i can see having a samuari with a staff is out of place along with black mage with a AXE is out of place, but we along with SE need to think outside the box and use old core traditions but bring in the new ones also.
