I would be more worried about the confusion between beastmaster and ninja though.

It can definitely work, it just may be confusing for those who never heard of shadow and interceptor and will be like "wtf.. ninja.. dog..? what?" lol

Still, if they could somehow sneak it in it would be a pretty cool tip of the hat- at least to an npc.
Shadow's dog could come out as one of the Limit break techniques for Ninja, that would be a tipped hat.
