Achievements are not the same as content and I don't remember any update that highlighted achievements alone.

It is a menu option that displays on off switches in the code. Chances are they were needed for other things for instance prereqs for other quests and they just gave them a menu display. But removal of this harmless system isn't going to change anything except have some people miss out on the "fun" they have collecting them.

Just like the holidays in game are useless and really don't contribute much besides a mini game and a faux prize that is only taking people minds off of other things should they get rid of those too? People enjoy things you should just them because enjoyment in any shape or form is what its all about.

Paying Your Dearest Respects - pray to Louisoix where he was standing in Apkulla Falls in Gridania a certain number of times.
What a Waste of Anima - teleport to the same aetheryte you just touched moments before.

And, recounting something my linkshell used to do in FFXI for lulz (slightly nsfw title altered for family viewing):

The Mad Dash - manage to survive a trek on foot without any armour equipped on a level 1 class between two citystates (like Gridania - Ul'dah).

I hope achievements reward fully experiencing the game and helping other players, rather than being only an exercise in patience and sacrifice of leisure-time, as the majority seemed to be in 1.0. I am not looking forward to running 9,000 caravans or whatever those achievements totalled.

    My suggestions:

Kill one of each type of monster in a given zone or attain all drops from each monster.

Class-based combat action achievements (as per LotRO), eg: heal for a certain amount of hp, score a certain number of crits, damage dealt from at least a given distance away.

Lore collection; finding NPCs and other lore descriptions about the world.

Item collection; I loved collecting the U/U items, but was sad when I ran out of space on my two retainers for them... It would have been nice to have had a checklist that got revealed and marked off as they were received.

    Number of people partied with!

And my favourite: an achievement every ten levels if you haven't been KO'd with the reward simply being that your name is displayed in a different colour, and possibly a glowing subligar (there was a thread about that as a solution to some players' desire for a 'hardcore' server).
I would like to see an achievement for helping people rather than getting rewarded. You help people for the fun of the game not to get rewarded. I know of systems where MMO devs try to implement this "reward" system and it hurts the community. An achievement that shows you did it, and for no reward, to me, is more rewarding :P

I would like to see this implemented.

Boat is allowed because of limsa lominsa. Raise is allowed so bring some friends. Would be cool to be able track your progress.

I like this idea too, because when im low on anima I tend to just run to do my quests and stuff. I try to save anima if i'm with other people to cut back on wasted time.

Breakin' the mold. - Complete a dungeon in a group using one job (All group members are the same job)
I could get used to this - Win your first match in the Coliseum
You could say he's been...dismembered YEAHHHHHHHHH! - Find out the traitor to the ____ Guild and eliminate them.
    C-C-C-C-Combo Breaker! - Break an enemy's combo.

Or, SE could just use the achievement names from 1.0 as trophy names. But this is quite fun.
I "LOL" so hard at the "tree hugger" one, but sadly fans of Gridania might not like it. I wouldnt like something that could seem insulting to Lominsans :/

I liked most of your ideas though

I personally like the achievement system in games, they give people who care about it something to do, and the people who dont care, it doesnt even affect them because.. well, they dont care. So yeah its fun, and funny and its just a little fun easy perk to the game. I would like to see more achievements in ARR, like the ones mentioned here.

I think it's an excellent idea to show that you helped someone. (Using 1.0 as an example) if you were to get an achievement for helping someone complete United We Stand when you've already done it before. There is no reward for repeating it, and it's not something you can do solo. Maybe do that a certain number of times and you'd get a "Mentor of the Maelstrom/Flames/Adders" title from a "Civic Duty" achievement. Or maybe if it could track rewardless quests in general. "Complete 10 of To Kill a Raven, United we Stand, It Kills with Fire, etc. after your first successful attempt."

I agree with Wyyote, Great idea, there are so many helpful people in game that do this and conversly some who complete then never touch it again no matter what.

It would be cool to reward them for helping out

Reward with just the achievement though. Because an actual reward creates more greed in a sense, and doesnt really promote friendship, but with the achievement you are doing it for the fun, and for bettering the community
