I will be sincere, I played every FF, although the NES-era games i've played the remakes and haven't played the PS3 games (don't own one) or XI (because it wasn't a game I could afford).

And for me those animations don't seem any flashier than any of the other ones of the series.

Actually they don't look flashy at all. A bit bright, perhaps, but not even flashy.
