They don't really have any reason or intensive to do so. I mean, it might be interesting to have it in a historical sense.
Later generations would know the mystery behind one of the biggest flops in Final Fantasy history instead of hiding it away and keeping it a lost artifact. But Square as a company has no reason to do so.

I'm actually picturing threads or whatever we'll have in the future, where young fans of Final Fantasy XXXII will talk about the secret past world of one of the old games like how we talk about secret versions of old canceled games and beta mysteries today. What a hoot.

This has less to do with the fact it's a private server and more to do with lazy developers. I've played a lot of Ragnarok, Maple Story and Lineage 2 Private Servers that mimicked the official releases with benefits, which are the original purpose, to give a free version of the real game.

I'd like you to direct me to this mythical private server that is apparently one hundred times better than the original. If you could do that me, I'll give you a way to contact me in private as I'm sure giving out this link on the forum will result in some punishment.

I'd just like to see this. Cause I doubt it really exists. If it does, and I assess that it does and works well, I'll eat my fucking words. Show me.

No matte what you may think of the game. Companies think long and hard before releasing code, It can result in giving the competition a boost SE doesn't need right now, or make new competition with Bootleg MMO attempts. Keep in mind the tools that were made to create 1.0 were also used to create Final Fantasy XIII.

Releasing the server software does not mean SE has to release the code. Server software does not have to be open-source.

How much more of a jump will it be to take the program, or the graphics that runs on it?

Mind you, if there are laws against it; and I'm sure there are, Keep in mind pirating games are practically a pastime in Asia since the NES.

Minecraft also came out with a different, SWEDISH license than FFXIV 1.0 that allowed it to distribute the server software without losing trademark.
